This is when Oleg was inducted into the KGB after his rigorous schooling at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations. He then went on to start training in 1963 for top-secret spy stuff. The induction was held in the "Red Banner" elite training academy (pg. 16).

To Gordievsky's surprise he was indeed not going incognito in foreign Western countries, he was in fact doing intern work and "shuffling papers" at the KGB headquarters (pg.20).

After Oleg thought his job was boring, he got his first promotion to run the undercover KGB spy network in Denmark. This experience led him to want to work for MI6.

Bromhead was tasked to try to recruit Oleg to MI6 so he could become a double agent for the British. They met a restaurant undercover. Oleg took the offer (pg. 53, 54, 55 56).

This was a plan that would be used in Russia when Oleg would go back for briefings and other spy KGB behavior. This plan was nearly impossible to execute without getting caught by the Soviets (pg. 85 86 91).

After Yelena and Olegs divorced the KGB demoted him. He moved back to the Kremlin and wanted to rise from the bottom again. However, this time, he wanted to stay and gather all of the secret intelligence for MI6 (pg. 93).

After a couple of years in the heart of the Kremlin, the KGB had an opening for a spy position in London. Oleg found this to be the perfect chance to try and get into London to make it easier to share his secrets. He got the job (pg. 107).

Ames was getting bored of his stale life at the top of the CIA. He thought he was underappreciated and underpaid. He starts to formulate thoughts and plans to try and become a double agent for the Soviets (pg. 149).

On pg (229) Oleg was interrogated by the KGB because he got snitched on by Ames. He continued to deny it and got out without exposing himself.

After Oleg was interrogated by the KGB he had to get out of the Soviet Union. They tried the risky operation Pimlico, and it was a success (pg. 302).
