William Golding was born in Saint Columb Minor, Corwall, England. His mother was a suffragette, and his father was a schoolteacher who was a firm believer in rationalism. This means that he had anti-religious beliefs and believed in reason and science. -

Golding began attending Brasenose College at Oxford, the school where his father taught. He spent 2 years studying science, but in his 3rd year, he switched to literature to pursue his true passion. -
