    The Allies’ Italian Campaign began with the invasion of Sicily in July 1943. It was a major campaign of World War ll in which the Allies took the island of Sicily from the Axis power.

    The surrender of Italy to the Allies. Badoglio (a man who had power in Mussolini's stead) approved a conditional surrender, This allowed the Allies to land in southern Italy and begin beating the Germans back up the peninsula. So, Germans quickly occupied Italy.

    Germans were occupying Rome & northern Italy, They started capturing most of Italian army, and 206 people was killed. The general Badoglio fled to Brindisi to set up a new antifascist government.

    On this date Mussolini´s guard confronted the Germans to rescue his leader Benito Mussolini from a mountain retreat in central Italy. In response to this, Benito replied "I knew my friend Adolf Hitler would not abandon me"

    Benito Mussolini fashions a new fascist republic. After a Grand Council vote of “no confidence,” Mussolini was thrust from power and quickly placed under house arrest.

    During World war II Allies forces reached into Naples, Italy ,which had already been taken over by Italian resistance fighters. When the troops arrived, Naples was already destroyed by the Germans.

    The Battle of Anzio was on January 22, and it took place until June 5. This battle started with the Allied amphibious landing known as Operation Shingle, The purpose was to outflank German forces at the Winter Line and enable an attack on Rome.

    Polish corps took Monte Casino, most known as a multinational Allied eighth Army offensive in Southern Italy. The purpose was to breat German Field Marshal Albert Kesselring's defensive.

    Benito Mussolini has been killed by partisans along with his mistress, Clara Petacci. They both were shot when they attempted to flee to Switzerland. A person declared that Mussolini's body had 5 shots. Also, Allies took Venice.

    The Campaign officially ended when Army group C surrender unconditionally to the Allies on May 2, 1945 one week before the formal German Instrument of Surrender.
