    Democritus

    Democritus
-He argued that the world consisted of an infinite number of atoms moving in an infinite void.
-He used his theory of atomism through the testimony of other ancient authors. Which was that his matter could not be divided into smaller and smaller pieces forever.
    - He tought the atom looked like a marble.

    Aristotle

    Aristotle
-He believed that there were no atoms, and believed that all matter was composed of "The Four Elements" Fire, Earth, Air, Water.
-He had no proof to support his theory . But he used different sciences and observations.
  • Dalton

    Dalton
-He said that all atoms of a given element have identical chemical properties. Also, elements always combine in fixed properties; therefore, mater has to be composed of idivisible particles(atoms).
-He used the atomis theory and other experiments to figure that out.
  • Thomsom

    Thomsom
-He said that the atom had a negative charge to it. the nickname of the atom was "Thomson's pudding. He imagined the atom as a sphere full of an electrically positive substance mixed with negative electron like the raisins in a cake.
    -He said this in 1904.
-He figured this out bu toeries from observations.
  • Rutherford

    Rutherford
-He discovered the atomic nucleus. His new model of the atom showed that its positive electric charge and the majority of its mass were concentrated in an almost point sized nucleus. The electron in an atom moves around this nucleus like planets around the Sun, and the attractive electric force plays the role which gravity plays for the planets; which is where we get the name "atomic planetary model".
    -He said this in 1912
-He figured this out by using mathematical models.
  • Schrodinger

    Schrodinger
-He said that the atoms behaved like both waves and particles. He proposed that the atomic model known as the "wave mechanical" model.
    -He said this in 1972
-He figured this out by using theories from observations.
-He thought it looked like electron shells, subshells, and orbitals. he called it "psi".
  • Bohr

    Bohr
-He said that the orbits of the electrons can't be just anywhere but are "quantified"; only certain particular orbits are permitted for the electron. It's not until one jumps from one orbit to another that it can emit (or absorb) light.
    -He said this in 1952
-He figured this out by classical physics. Which explains movement and phenomena interns (Atomic Theory).
