The French and Indian War started in 1754 because everyone wanted the same land in the Ohio River Valley. A young George Washington basically sparked the whole thing when his guys got into a messy fight with the French at the Battle of Jumonville Glen. It lasted until 1763 and ended with Britain winning most of the territory. -
Beginning in 1763 economic policy England followed when it came to the 13 colonies. England saw the colonies as a market for English goods wanted to get money (taxes) natural resources from the colonies. -
The American Revolution started on April 19, 1775, with the Battles of Lexington and Concord. For years, the colonists were heated over British taxes and felt it was messed up to pay when they had no voice in the government, calling it taxation without representation. Once the first shots were fired known as the shot heard round the world the colonies officially went to war, picked George Washington to lead them, and signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776. -
"Common Sense" is a book written by Thomas Paine and was very popular during the Enlightenment and I learned about it on Hamilton.
