    The Civil War would officially begin with the attack on Fort Sumter located in Charleston, South Carolina.

    The First Battle of Bull Run would be the first major battle between Confederate and Union forces. It would be so close to the U.S. Capitol that Senators were able to witness the battle. It would end in a Confederate victory.
  • Bloodiest Battle in U.S. History

    The Battle of Antietam would be the bloodiest battle in U.S. history, with over 22,000 casualties in a single day. It would end in a Union Victory.
  • Turning Point of the Civil War

    The Battle of Gettysburg would be considered the turning point of the Civil War when Union General Meade defeated Confederate General Robert E. Lee and forced him to retreat from the North. The three day battle ended with a Union Victory
  • Final Major Battle

    The war would officially end with the Battle of Appomattox Court House. It would be fought between Union General Ulysses S. Grant and Confederate General Robert E. Lee. General Lee would surrender his Army of Northern Virginia, effectively disbanding the South's largest army and losing their best general.
