  • The zoological society of NSW was founded

  • The first public zoo in New South Wales (NSW) officially opened in Sydney in 1884

    on a site known as Billy Goat Swamp in Moore Park

  • NSW government granted 43 acres of land to Taronga zoo

  • Animals were moved from Moore park to Taronga zoo

  • Taronga Zoo officially opened

  • Giraffe house completed 1923

  • Aquarium completed

  • New exhibition built for larger cats, Koalas, apes and Gorillas

  • Change in direction
