In November of 1993, Art Davie, along with his two friends Rorion Gracie and Bob Meyrowitz Founded the Ultimate Fighting Championship and hosted the first ever fight. This would be the start of the now largest mixed martial arts organizations in the world. -
In 2001, White was given the title of president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship after it was purchased by the Fertitta brothers. Under White's control, the Ultimate Fighting Championship grew exponentially until it was and still remains as the largest mixed martial arts organization in the world. Through lucrative broadcasting deals, White was able to grow the UFC to that level. -
Today, you might know Joe Rogan either from his comedy or his podcasts, but he is also a Commentator for the UFC, and one of the most highly regarded ones at that. There have been multiple articles written about how great of a Commentator he is by top sports news outlets. The key for his success as a UFC Commentator comes from a mix of his experience as a stand up comedian and his extensive knowledge of the sport of mixed martial arts. If it was not for Rogan, the UFC wouldn't have as many fans. -
On January 17th of 2005, the very first episode of 'The Ultimate Fighter" would be broadcast on television. This was the Ultimate Fighting Championship's first ever television show. The idea and concept was thought of by the current president of the UFC, Dana White. This television show gained a lot of traction and had fans all over the world tuning into it. This was seen as a turning point in the history of the UFC since after the show went live, its popularity spiked higher than ever before. -
On July 30th of 2009, the UFC would put a 10 point system into place. A 10 point system works by awarding the winner of a round 10 points, while the loser of that specific round gets anywhere from nine to seven points based on their performance that round and how close the fight with the winner was. If it was a close, the loser is awarded 9 points, however if it was total dominance, the loser would only receive 7 points. This would permanently change the outcome of many UFC fights to come. -
Over the course of the two years 2012 and 2013, the UFC had been getting a lot of requests to add a women's division so that female mixed martial artists would have the chance to compete at the highest level. After all this request, UFC president Dana White eventually added a women's strawweight division in December of 2013. This event would eventually lead to the introduction of three other weight classes for women and stars like Ronda Rousey and Amanda Nunes. -
The UFC fight Pass is a monthly subscription offered by the UFC in which you get to watch early prelims and top fights from other mixed martial arts organizations live. For only ten dollars a month, this gives people who are fans of mixed martial arts a chance to watch top level fights without having to spend eighty dollars on one singular pay per view. The UFC fight Pass also allows access to old fights once they have finished. The UFC fight Pass has allowed more fans to watch these fights. -
On June sixth of 2014, UFC released its first ever video game. This game came through the UFC president Dana White's persistence to keep growing the company and his contacts with some of the people who work at EA. This would be the start of the UFC video game series, which now has five different video games, with the most recent being UFC 5. Within the first month of sales, over 100,000 copies had been sold, which generated the UFC a whopping 7.4 million dollars. -
USADA, also known as the United States Anti- Doping Agency works with the top American athletes in order to perform drug tests on them. These drug tests ensure that fighters in the UFC are not using performance enhancing drugs. This has made the UFC a lot safer now that fighters do not have to fight against opponents that have an unfair advantage. In their first year with USADA, the UFC caught many people using steroids, including former champion Anderson Silva. -
Over the course of 2018 there were two fighters who were both extremely popular due to the fact that they were both seen as the best fighters at that point in time. After some disagreements and altercations between the two based around who was the better fighter, they would eventually get scheduled to fight each other on October 6th of that same year at UFC 229. This fight would result in over 2.4 million people buying an eighty dollar pay per view, making it the largest UFC event to this day.
