What was then known as Ceylon, gained independence from Great Britain turning it into a self governing nation. This then led to questioning on how there new country should be led, turning into a civil war. -
They replaced English and Tamil with Sinhala and making it the sole official language. This contributed to the civil war ideologically because it started the feeling of exclusion of Tamil speaking people because they now had no power not being able to speak the new official language and has even now still is a topic that is brought up as an issue even though Tamil has since been added back into official languages. -
The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna is a Marxist–Leninist political party in Sri Lanka. They are very much against the government and led armed movements against them. This led to widespread violence, government action, and social/political trauma for Sri Lankan civilians.

Up until this date Sri Lanka was known as Ceylon. This was done by replacing there original constitution and created a presidential office, established a unicameral legislature, and ended up severing the link with Sri Lanka and the British monarchy.

These were terrorist attacks against churches on Easter Sunday. This resulted in a lot of Anti-Muslim violence and issues still having to be addressed today with what kids are being taught and reforming ideologies.
