1954

This court case established that there would no longer be segregation in schools and that all children deserved to have an equal education

Elementary and Second Education Act of 1965

1965

This allowed for schools to be provided resources to ensure that children with disabilities were provided with an equal education.

Education of the handicap act

1970

This law replaced the elementary and second education act. This law established a grant to push states to provide schools with the required reources to provide children with disabilities an equal education.

Pennsylvania Assn. for Retarded Children v. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (PARC)

1971

This law dealt with the exclusion of kids with mental retardation in public schools. In addition to this, it also stated that special placement for children with disabilities has to be agreed to by a parent as well.

Mills v. Board of Education of District of Columbia

1972

This law ensured that children with disabilities may not be exlcuded or expelled from public schools based on their disabilities.
