First satilite to orbit Earth
The sovient launched Sputnik the first artificial satilite. This event starts the space race between United States and the Sovient Union. -
The Seven
NASA job was to put the first human in space by President Eisenhower and the U.S. Congress to restore America's reputation. The astranauts had to be no taller then 5 feet 11 and between the ages of 25 and 40. All the astronauts had to be militery test pilots. In April 9 1959 Nasa sent seven astronauts and they were known as the Seven. -
Race to the Moon
In 1961 the Sovient Union sent the first human into space. On January 27, 1967 the crew of Apollo 11 gets killed in a fire on launch pad and on April 23, the Sovient Unions cosmonaut's space craft's parachute fails on re-entry. Both space programs halt for a year. -
Apollo 11
NASA schedules Apollo 11 as the first manned mission to the moon. The astronauts in Apollo 11 were Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Buzz Aldrin. -
Apollo 11 Liftoff

Pioneer 10 was the first spacecraft to leave the solar system. It was 50 times more farther from the sun than Earth. It launched on March 2, 1972. -

The robot Sojourner is a remote-controlled, solar-powered rover that sends images of the planet’s surface and investigates chemical properties of Martian soil. It was abored the space probe Pathfinder to explore the surface of Mars. -
First Spacecraft to Orbit Saturn
Cassini-Huygens became the first spacecraft to go into orbit around Saturn. Later in the year it also orbited Sturn's moon Titan.
