This was when Congress passed an act banning the Importation of slaves into the US. This was social, economic, and political as it slowed production of good since many relied on slaves and reduced trade as people used slaves for trade. Social because of the conflict it produced, and political as many didn't agree with this but Congress made the decision. -

This act was signed by president pierce and it removed restrictions on expansion. This act was primarily political because it allowed people to vote on whether wanted slavery in their territory or not. -
Bleeding Kansas
Bleeding Kansas was a social battle between people who wanted slavery and those who did not. Pierce believed the easiest solution would be for the voters in Nebraska to vote for a free state and Kansas to vote for slavery but this did not go over well as there were many fights and conflicts in Kansas. The Caning of Charles Sumner
This was when Charles Sumner made a fierce speech called "The crime against Kansas" that was against pro-slavery people. This angered Congressman Preston Brooks who then attacked Sumner with his cane, injuring him severely. This was social and political as the speeches were political but the act on Sumner caused a big social discussion among people. -
The Dred Scott Decision
This was when Dred Scott, a slave, sued for his own freedom as he lived in a free state with his owners. This was a big thing during the time cause most slaves were not brave enough to do this. This was social and political as it started a upcoming of slaves coming forward for themselves.
