In a 12-page letter, Barnett details his experience in war as he was wounded. He recounts his experience in being injured and transferred to hospital in Boulogne later in Cambridge. The letter begins on the 4th of August finishes on the 14th of August.

Barnett was hit by a shell and was sent to hospital in Boulogne, and then later to Cambridge in England. He was injured and had a "hole the size of a penny" in his head. Recorded this in his letter dated to his parents 4/8/16.

Barnett's aunt, Maggie writes to him. She asks if he would be interested in visiting them, as he is is wounded and back in England. She congratulates him wishes him all the best.

Louisa informs Bert that a gift has been to him in England for Xmas. Louisa tells Bert that her nephew has been killed- Walter Pearce. Louisa went away to Penrith for rest as according to doctors orders.

Louisa writes to Bert about the hold up in mail disturbances. Louisa mentions that she had heard from Barnett in January, and assumes that he is back in France fighting.

Old neighbour, Francis Clifford Jones writes to the Goulders expressing his sadness as Barnett was reported missing. Francis asks if Roscoe Caughey Goulder would be interested in meeting up to chat. *This is believed to be Francis Clifford Jones, but the name was not written clearly.

Louisa updated Bert that Barnett still remained missing that it had been 13 weeks since she had last heard from him. Louisa mentions Percy- Barnett's younger brother.

Louisa writes to Bert that she has heard from people in Streatham that Barnett has been taken as a prisoner of war. She received a cable which detailed him suffering from a gun shot in the chest. She hopes that he will be able to retun her. Louisa mentions that Percy was not strong enough to undertake the journey.

Louisa has not heard from Bert for an extended period of time and sends a follow-up letter informing him that Barnett has been taken to Limberg. She attributes the delays to being lost in transport (she had sent other ones on May 13th June 11th). Barnett has reported to be doing well, but Louisa is affected by a large railway strike.
