    After the war, Britain made a proclamation that the colonists couldn't settle past the Appalachian mountains. The people were angry because they had been promised land past the mountains, some even already lived there.

    An act meant to reduce tax rates on molasses, and raised taxes on sugar. It was strictly enforced to pay for the 7 year war.

    An act which makes the colonists are made to pay taxes in the form of a stamp that was put on different papers, documents, and even playing cards.
  • Townshend Acts of 1767

    Townshend Acts of 1767
    A series of measures that put taxes on various imported products, mainly glass, lead, paint, paper, and tea. The colonists really disliked this, and it only lasted about a month.

    The Boston Massacre
    One night some saucy boys were throwing snowballs at a British guard, some other British soldiers came to defend him and they started fighting, it ended with a few colonists getting shot.

    The object was to reduce the amount of tea that the financially troubled had. As well as to undercut the amount of illegal tea being smuggled to the colonies.

    A political protest that occurred because of the taxes on tea. The Sons of Liberty and other colonists dumped tea into the bay in the night while in disguise as Native Americans.

    More laws to keep the colonies in line and punish Massachusetts for the Tea Party. It was also called The Coercive Acts in Britain instead.
  • 1st Continental Congress

    1st Continental Congress
    A meeting of twelve of the thirteen colonies after the British Navy made a blockade at Boston Harbor, and after the Intolerable acts were made.
