This was important because is signified the low part in the war for the Union and stressed the experience of the Confederates. -

The idea of the Campaign was maneuvers to keep control of the lower Mississippi River to the Union. The Confederates on the other hand had canons sent to the riversides to attack the Union forces. Control of this area was important because it was a huge transportation and agricultural advantage. -
After the Battle of Fredericksburg Burnside was replaced and the new General changed and made the Union Army to a much more efficient force. They outnumbered the Confederate army but Lee trapped them in the forrest to separate the Union's large numbers. After 3 days of fighting Lee won the Battle of Chancellorsville. This was significant because General Jackson was wounded and ruined the Union plans of invading Richmond. -

After a Union retreat the battle took place at Cemetery Hill and Copse Hill. The Southern lines took Union forces one by one with a fishhook position. While short, the speech was able to influence the Union and bring them together. It helped people understand the idea of equality and the importance of preserving the Union. -

They surrendered because the Confederate troops were surrounded with no way out. They met at Wilmer McLean's home at 1pm. This was significant because it ended the Civil War, one of the largest wars in American History.
