    Used to gain revenue. But more in=portant then revenue was the right to show that they had power to pass these taxes. Used to raise additional money for Britain from the colonies. Placed on items, not crucial for trade.
  • British troops land in Boston Harbor

    British troops land in Boston Harbor
    Troop ships, accompanied by British men of war, arrived in Boston Harbor. They were sent because of the colonist response to the Townshend Act. Daily contact between them caused relationships to get worse.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    Five colonists were killed by British Troops in Boston. Precipitated by taunts against British soldiers. British responded with force and fired their muskets at the Americans.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    Thousands of Bostonians and farmers packed into the Old South Meeting house to hear Samuel Adams. Adams denounced as govenor for denying clearance for ships wishing to leave with tea on board. After the speech, 50 individuals dressed as indians, and dumped 90,000 pounds of tea overboard.
