During my third grade year, my teacher Mr. Romero, would host "parties" for the Reading Ranger graduates. He was determined in seeing his students succeed and sometimes a motivation teacher can really make the difference in how students perform and progress.

After completing my WIDA assessments in third grade I was so deeply invested in the world of literature. I didn't know about the public library system yet so I attended summer School just so I could continue to read.

My fifth grade teacher, Ms. Cook, loved reading just as much as I did and always intended to get her students to graduate from the Reading Rangers program and by the end of the year I accomplished that goal. I was reading at a seventh grade level!

During my middle school years my literature journey was focused on reading articles and presenting visual text written information to my peers.

When I was in ninth grade, we had the global pandemic leading students to be learning from their homes. I was not reading much, if not at all, during this time but still had a passion for literature deep down.

High school was not great for my reading journey. I read a few novels on my own during my free time but it wasn't till my English teacher during my senior year that encouraged me to get back into reading!

While I am still relatively new to college experience, I learn to appreciate all my course readings because they relate to my passion which is teaching. Looking back I am grateful for all the teachers who have shaped me into the reader I am today and for encouraging my passion for reading!
