    The Playstation 2 released October 26, 2000. The PS2 offered backward-compatibility for its predecessor's games. In addition, the console can play audio CDs and DVD movies. The console also features 2 USB ports and 1 IEEE 1394 (Firewire) port enabling the console to play select games over the Internet. The PS2 is the best-selling video game console of all time, it also has one of the longest console lifespans. Repair services for the system in Japan ended on September 7, 2018.

    In August 2003, several eUniverse employees with "Friendster" saw potential in its social networking features. The group decided to mimic the more popular features of the website. Myspace has had a significant influence on technology, pop culture and music. It was the first social network to reach a global audience. It played a critical role in the early growth of companies like YouTube, it created a developer platform that launched the successes of Zynga, RockYou, and Photobucket, among others.

    Facebook

    The eventual successor to Myspace, internet giant Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg, along with several fellow Harvard College students. It can be accessed from devices with Internet connectivity, such as PC's, tablets and smartphones. Users can post text and multi-media which is shared with other users that have agreed to be their "friend". Users can also join common-interest groups, buy and sell items or services, and receive notifications of their Facebook friends' activities.

    YouTube was founded by Steve Chen, Chad Hurley, and Jawed Karim. YouTube provides several ways to watch videos, on the website, in mobile apps, and embedded in other websites. Content includes music videos, video clips, short and documentary films, audio recordings, movie trailers, live streams, and video blogs. Most content is made by individuals, but corporations also publish videos. In addition to watching and uploading, users can comment on videos, rate them, and make playlists.

    iPhone

    The first-generation iPhone was announced by former Apple CEO Steve Jobs. Since then Apple has annually released new iPhone models. It connects to cellular networks or Wi-Fi, can make calls, browse the web, take pictures, play music, send and receive emails and text messages. Further features have been added, like larger screen sizes, shooting video, waterproofing over time and in subsequent models the ability to install third-party mobile apps through it's app store.
