    May 10, 1940 – Jun 25, 1940
    1) Also known as the Fall of France. 2) The Germans used armored vehicles and aircraft to make rapid territorial gains. 3) 191,000 Allied troops were evacuated from France in June. 4) 8,000,000 French, Dutch and Belgian refugees were created during the summer of 1940. 5) In the Battle of France there was 3,350,000 soldiers and were matched in number by Allied opponents.
  • Battle of Britain

    Jul 10, 1940 – Oct 31, 1940
    1) The British air force was called the RFA. 2) The code name for the invasion was operation Sea Lion. 3) It is said that 1,000 British planes were shot down during the battle. 4) Hurricane Mk and Spitfire Mk planes were used by the RFA. The Messerschmitt Bf109 and the Bf110 were used by the Germans during the Battle of Britain.

    1) This was also called the 900 day siege. 2) The battle began less than three months after Germany attacked the Soviet Union. 3) 1,017,881 had been killed, captured, or missing from the red army. 4) 2,418,185 were wounded or sick from the red army. 5) The Soviet Union, Germany, and Finnish army were involved in the battle of Leningrad.

    Battle of Stalingrad
    1942 – February 2, 1943 1) General Paulus lead the battle of Stalingrad. 2) Hitler stripped Paulus of his rank and held a national day of mourning for the shame Paulus had brought on Germany by losing the battle. 3) German tanks had trouble going around the city because most of it was rubble. 4) 91,000 German soldiers were captured at the end of the battle. 5) Continuous bombing of the city killed thousands and the air became hot and filled with a horrible smell of decaying corpses.

    Nov 8, 1942 – Nov 10, 1942 1) Operation Torch was the first time the British and Americans had worked on a invasion plan together. 2) There were about 60,000 French troops in Morocco and they also had a smaller naval fleet in Casablanca. 3) The central task force was commanded by Major-General Lloyd Fredendall. 4) The western task force was commanded by Major-General George Patton. 5) The eastern task force was commanded by General Ryder.

    1) D-Day was the largest amphibious invasion in history. 2) The invasions code name was operation overlord. 3) General Dwight D. Eisenhower commanded this invasion. 4) The five beaches where the allies landed had code names, Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword. 5) 13,000 aircraft and 5,000 ships supported this invasion.

    Dec 16, 1944 – Jan 25, 1945 1) The allies had 80,000 initially and ultimately 600,000+ soldiers. 2) Germany had 200,000 initially and ultimately 500,000 soldiers. 3) The allies suffered from 90,000 casualties while the Germans suffered from 100,000 casualties. 4) In the end the Allies had won The Battle of The Bulge. 5) General Dwight D. Eisenhower commanded the allies in The Battle of The Bulge.

    Apr 16, 1945 – May 2, 1945 1) About 150,000 polish soldiers fought with the soviet union. 2) The battle left over a million Germans without food, homes, or clean water. 3) The soviet union won The Battle of Berlin. 4) Germany had surrendered in this battle and the death of Adolf Hitler occurred also. 5) German casualties is estimated at between 100,000 to 450,000 and thousands of civilians also lost their lives in this battle.
