Born to a poor weaver who brought his family to America.

Started working in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

1853

At 18 he was working as the private secretary to a railroad official named Thomas Alexander Scott.

Carnegie starts his first steel mill

1873

Left the railroad and started his own company 8 years later made his steel mill.

Consolidated into the Carnegie Steel Company

1899

Carnegie controlled a quarter of American iron and steel production.
