    Physiotherapy as a Kinesiology career today has its origins which trace back to Ancient India and China during the 4th Century. Methods such as massages, hydrotherapy and exercise as a means of treating injured men in the instance of battle. At this period of time, the was very little development in resources and knowledge for effective physiotherapy and treatment.

    Significant Developments

    In 460 AD we see the first advocation for physiotherapy the Greeks and this became a significant turning point for physiotherapy today as it was the catalyst for research and a progression in knowledge. A physician named Hippocrates pushed for the same methods used by the Indians and Chinese as he understood the benefits of massage and exercise.

    Later on in the same year, 4 nurses from Great Britain formed the first physiotherapy organization called the "Chartered Society of Physiotherapy" which has progressed and still provides services today with 65,000 members.

    An important event in the timeline of physiotherapy occurred in early 1894 where further advocation for physiotherapy took place. This time it was by Pehr Henrik Ling who held a significant status as he was known as "The Father of Swedish Gymnastics". He advocated for manipulation techniques on top of massages and exercise.

    Changes in technology and education/certification requirements

    The 20th Century pushed for an advancement in technology and findings particularly in Europe. Significant global events such as both World Wars and the outbreak of disease such as Polio forced a wave in increased technology and resources to counter these events. New streams of physiotherapy included Burns Rehab, Spinal Cord Injury, Nerve Rehab and Respiratory Physiotherapy.

    In todays modern age, Physiotherapy has become career opportunities for people and technology advances as Physicians and Therapists gain more knowledge on the human body from a biological standpoint and methods for effective treatment
