The Acting Company was started by John Houseman, the then head of the Drama Division of Julliard. It was started to give jobs and oppurtunities to the first graduating class of Julliard.

Patti sues Andrew Lloyd Webber for breach of contract, as she was promised the role of Norma in "Sunset Boulevard" on Broadway and it instead went to Glenn Close. Patti says she did not know of the recasting until reading a gossip column in the newspaper in the dressing room of said show. "I took batting practice in my dressing room with a floor lamp, I swung at everything in sight—mirrors, wig stands, makeup, wardrobe, furniture, everything. Then I heaved the lamp out the second-floor window."

This role won Patti her Third Tony. During this run Patti called out two audience members for not wearing their masks properly during a QnA session.
