At around 7:50 in the morning, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii was bombed which ended in over 2,4000 American lives lost. This attack was considered the turning point in the war where the Allies were more likely to win (and did).
-
72,000-78,000 of Americans and Japanese soldiers were forced to walk 65 miles. The march was from the Bataan Principal to Camp O'Donnell.
-
America (Doolittle leading) went and bombed a part of Japan. They did this to show to Japan that they were vulnerable and sent an idea back from the Attack on Pearl Harbor.
-
America learned the Japanese's way of communicating and intercepted an attack. They won, obviously, stopping the attack before it even happened.
-
This battle was the first major loss for Japan. America took control of an island (Guadalcanal) and used it for a key point in winning the war.
-
America invaded the Island of Leyte to claim it back from the Japanese. The win itself allowed America to have better access to the Philippines, cutting Japan off in the process.
-
The island of Iwo Jima was a main landing strip for Japan that kept them safe from the Americans, so the American's took it for themselves for their advantage. This battle symbolizes the resilience and strength America had.
-
Much like the previous battles, America seized another island. This pushed America to make bigger decisions to end the war.
-
This bombing was the first and so far last time nuclear bombs have been used. It marked the end of the war, forcing the Japanese to surrender.
-
After the bombing and the threat of another, Japan surrendered, which ultimately led to the end of WWII. (However this did start the Cold War, but that's a whole different story.)
