  • Tariff of 1828

    The Tariff of 1828 was a protecting tariff. this was meant to keep American still going with trade, to keep up with Britian. Because of this the trade imports increased by almost 50%. With that being said for the Southern States they would be doing bad, but with the Northern States with manufacture will do better. It was seen as a threat to the agriculture and manufacturing industry. The south had to pay higher for imported trade, and the North would get it for a good price.

  • South Carolina Exposition & Protest

    The South Carolina Exposition Protest was a letter that protested against the Tariff of 1828. It opposed the statement from Tariff of 1828 in which the states could reject the federal government if they feel they have a right to nullify something as unconstitutional.

  • Webster- Hayne Debate

    The Hayne Debate was between Daniel Webster and Robert Y Hayne, in which they had a debate dealing with the protected tariffs. Hayne argued for state rights, and Webster argued for Nationalism.

  • Tariff of 1832

    This new Tariff had lowered their price on most of the imports because he wanted to keep the tariff but also not overcharge or disappoint the south. He seen it as the union breaking up and separating if the tariffs were removed.

  • Jackson’s Proclamation Against Nullification

    Jackson is upset about the South trying to nullify, this led him to start gathering his army to attain the tariffs, as well as sending threats to the South. He seen it as the tariff acts being unconstitutional, in which he had replied to the convection ordains dealing with the tariff acts. He had to question the states having the power to overrule the federal law.

  • Tariff of 1833 (Compromise Tariff)

    This Tariff was put into place to surpass more than 20% of the goods that were imported, it led to more peace when the tariffs were lowered.

  • The Force Bill

    Another time trying to keep the South happy, Jackson had lowered the tariff more than it was. But the bill was signed in which if the South didn’t pay for the taxes on the goods then the army would have to step in, and which this was known as the Bloody Bill.

  • South Carolina Repeal of Nullification

    South Carolina believed that the Nullification should be repealed such as making the tariff rate lower so possibly it could just lead to the end.
