My Journey to Nursing

  • Introduced to the Medical Field

My mom was a caregiver for about 13 years and through her I was able to learn about patient care and what it was like in an assisted living facility. My older brother and I would always volunteer and participate in activities with the elderly and I honestly had lots of fun seeing what my mom’s career was like.
  • Starting the Health Academy in High School

I applied to an academy in my local high school because I was interested in seeking a career in something medical and I was accepted! I had no idea at this moment what I was going to choose but I knew the medical field was for me.
  • Career Project

In the Health Academy we did a big career project where we had to pick a career we were interested and make a plan on how we were going to get there after graduation. People from different medical professions came to talk to us and that is how I was taught about the nursing field. I was immediately intrigued and chose nursing for my career without knowing how much I would love it.

    My Grandmas Unexpected Passing

During the start of the pandemic my grandma passed because of negligence in the hospital. She was in a car accident and needed different treatments that eventually led to her getting sepsis and passing quickly. I knew then that I wanted to pursue nursing to give others the care that my grandma did not get and try my best to save other families loved ones.
