In 2018 I graduated with no clue what I wanted to be or due... I decided to attend Palomar College in order to continue school and get my general AA and focusing on Psychology!
-
I got my 1st Healthcare Job, which happened to be my 1st ever Job as an Activities Aide in a Skilled Nursing Facility in a Locked Psych Uint.
-
I fell in love with caring for others and wanted to know how I could advance in the field. Lucky for me I learned after 6 months of employment with the Company they would pay for me to attend CNA school in order to work for them. So I took full advantage and applied for the Scholarship … and Passed ✨
-
Unfortunately as a new and young CNA, I learned quickly about the trials and tribulations that come with working in healthcare. Working in a Psych Unit also came with plenty of it's own challenges. I made a tough decision to put in my two weeks and seek other opportunities, which was hard because I had grown to love my residents and coworkers. But I found myself struggling physical and mental.. for my mental health I also stopped attending school.
-
I was able to use my skills and CNA to find a new opportunity quickly! One of my favorite job experiences ever.. Teri Campus of Life! I got to work in residential homes with Individuals on with Developmental Disabilities.
-
Only few short weeks after I started at Teri, I also started working my 1st hospital job part time as a Patient Mobility Tech. This all came just in time for the shutdowns of COVID-19... A horrible dark time in healthcare for all of us who are trauma bonded through this experiance.
-
Through the hardships of COVID-19, I saw the literal blood sweat and tears that went into being a nurse. Even through the unknown and scary times in the face of actual death the Nurse continues to show up and work so hard that's when I decided... I wanted that kind of superpower. I wanted to be an RN. So i did my research and started my Prerequisites for Nursing at Palomar.
-
I decided to get my Home Health Aid certificate as well which allowed to to work as a Hospice aid Private Caregiver. All while I continued to work through my Prerequisites, I realized I liked the Hospital setting so much more. A full time position as a CNA became available at my Hospital Tri-City and I jumped on the opportunity.
-
My Nana got terminal sick at a quick rate so me an my family rallied together to provide 24/7 care between ourselves, I spent a lot of my free time as her caregiver up until she passed. Before that she she told me I would make a fantastic Nurse and I'm determined and motivated daily to see this journey through for her.
-
After a few years at Tri-City, we were faced with lots and lots of layoffs and being underpaid. So I once agin set out trying to find new opperutinties... I found and applied as a Patient Care Assassinate at Scripps in the float pool and got the job!!
-
Finally I had finished my prerequisites and passed my HESI! I applied to many schools far and wide and was lucky enough to hear back from UUN, that I could still join the Spring semester and was beyond excited to start as soon as possible.
-
The start of one of the hardest and most rewarding adventures of my life!! Where I meet fantastic people with the same goal and was motived by even greater Professors to work hard.
-
I FINISHED AND PASSED SEMESTER ONE!!
Though there were times I didn't think it possible or questioned the path.... I did it! -
Made the Decision to start my BSN Journey!
-
I hope to (I WILL) have passed all 4 semesters and am getting to walk across the stage knowing I worked hard and am heading into my dream job!
-
-
I will apply and get into Scripps wonderful new grad program where I hope to gain amazing and valuable experience as a new nurse!
-
I hope to be done and earn my Bachelors Degree :)
-
After I finish the new grad residency program I will then apply for the ICU transitional program that helps New Grads transition to work specifically in the ICU.
-
I hope to be gaining vital experience in the ICU, all while continuing my education and gaining certifications like my CCRN,ACLs,PALs and TNCC.
-
I debate trying for my CRNA and being a Travel Nurse! Hopefully with more time and experience I can continue to narrow it down and find my dream job! That's the greatest thing about nursing... so many different pathways :)
