The Seikilos Epitaph is the oldest complete piece of music that we know.
It was found on a small stone column near Ephesus in Turkey, from the 1st century AD. The stone has a short poem with musical notes written above it. The poem says that life is short and we should live with joy. The music was written by a man named Seikilos, probably in memory of his wife.
