    On Thursday, December 1, 1955, a forty-year-old black woman, Mrs. Rosa Parks, got on a bus and sat down. The bus was full, and the bus driver told her to give her seat to a white passenger. She refused. They arrested her.
    After this incident, King, Nixon, and Abernathy organized a meeting of church leaders and other important black people. Mrs. Parks agreed bravely to go to the court and fight for civil rights. A boycott of the Montgomery city buses began.

    On September 4, 1958, King went into a courtroom to speak to Abernathy. A guard angrily told him, "Boy, if you don't get away from here, you will need a lawyer!" The policeman took him to jail.
    After some time, they politely sent him home, but it was too late because newspapers printed the photo of police violence against King. King was told to pay $10 or go to jail for fourteen days. "I make this decision because of my love for America..." he said in court.

    On the stormy evening of April 3, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee, King gave his last speech.
    The next day, in the evening, waiting for Abernathy, King went outside of room 306 of the hotel. He joked with his friends in the parking lot below. At six o'clock, a gunshot was heard. King was hit in the face. Abernathy ran to his friend and tried to stop the blood. King was taken to the hospital, but died at 7.05 P.M. on April 4, 1968.
