  • Birth of Mark Twain

    Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) was born November 30th, 1835 in Florida, Missouri.
  • The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County

    A year before he published this short story, he visited Calaveras County in California. Then Twain settled in San Francisco. This short story became very popular and appeared in the New York Saturday Press.
  • Lecturing

    Twain then began lecturing and traveled to Hawaii as a reporter for San Francisco's Alta California. When he returns back to San Francisco he gives his first public lecture and people loved it
  • Marriage

    Twain marries Olivia Langdon. She will then later become one of Twains important editors. Later in that year they will have a son.
  • Moves to Connecticut

    Twain and his family move to Hartford, Connecticut. After the move he publishes "Roughing It" which is a memoir he wrote about him living in the west. In the same year they have a daughter but their son dies of diphtheria.
  • Daughter

    Twain third child Clara was born, she is the only one of Twain's kids that will outlive him.
  • Tom Sawyer

    Twain has "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" published.
  • Last child

    Twains fourth and last child Jean is born.
  • Huckleberry Finn

    Twain publishes "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.
  • Death

    Samuel Clemons died on April 21, 1910
