  • Period: 800 to 1200

    Nga Kakano

    They lived a hunter gatherer life. This is when the first Polynesian settlers arrived. Nga Kakano also traslates to 'the seed'
  • Period: 1200 to 1500

    Te Tipunga

    They began to settle, and developed art and culture. They also began to travel further north on the island
  • Period: 1500 to

    Te Puawaitanga

    European settlers arrived and the recording of culture began. This recording was quite biased as it was from the perspective of the Europeans. This time period is also known as 'the flowering'
  • Te Huringa

    This is known as the turning point, and is when modern world culture was introduced.
