  • Battle of France/Miracle of Dunkirk

    Battle of France/Miracle of Dunkirk
    This was the evacuation of allied soldiers from the beaches of Dunkirk. It happened after large numbers of Belgian, British, and French troops were cut off and surrounded by German troops during the six-week-long Battle of France. Churchill claimed it to be a colossal military disaster. It was a miracle that they escaped in the numbers that they did.
  • Battle of Britain

    Battle of Britain
    The largest sustained bombing campaign to date. The Battle of Britain ended when Germany’s Luftwaffe failed to gain air superiority over the Royal Air Force despite months of targeting Britain’s air bases, military posts and, ultimately, its civilian population. The victory saved the country from a ground invasion and possible occupation by German forces. Proved that air forces alone can win decisively large battles.
  • Battle of Leningrad

    Battle of Leningrad
    Also called the 900-day siege Leningrad’s entire able-bodied population was mobilized to build antitank fortifications along the city’s outside in support of the city’s 200,000 Red Army defenders. The people of Leningrad had to get all of their food by barge in the summer or sled dog in the winter. They planted crops to help starvation dwindle They were given the title of the Hero City of the Soviet Union on it in 1965, because of its endurance in the grueling siege from Germany.

    Battle of Stalingrad
    Was the successful Soviet defense of the city of Stalingrad (now Volgograd) in the U.S.S.R. during World War II. Russians consider it to be the greatest battle of their Great Patriotic War, and most historians consider it to be the greatest battle of the entire conflict. This battle marked the turning of the tide of war in favor of the Allies. The Battle of Stalingrad was one of the bloodiest battles in history, with combined military and civilian casualties of nearly 2 million.
  • Operation Torch

    Operation Torch
    Operation Torch was the name given to the Allied invasion of French North Africa. This was the first time that the British and Americans had worked on an invasion plan together. This was a war to create a new front to help take off some of the pressure from Soviet Russia. Included the first major airborne assault carried out by the United States during the war. It was a great success with the result of destroying more than 20 submarines and taking most control over Afro-France.

    Also known as the battle of Normandy, d-day was a battle that liberated the Nazis control of western Europe. The allies breach a 50-mile beach of the heavily fortified coast to take over Normandy. It was known as one of the largest amphibious militaries assaults in history. Prior to d-day, the allies conducted a large scale deception campaign, designed to mislead the Germans. D-day was known as the beginning of the end of WWII.

    the Allied line took on the appearance of a large bulge, giving rise to the battle’s name. Despite heavy casualties, they held off the Germans attack. Its objective was to split the Allied armies by means of a surprise blitzkrieg thrust through the Ardennes to Antwerp. We had messed up when we gave the defense to two battered teams with little experience. A crucial German shortage of fuel and the bravery of American troops proved fatal to Hitler’s ambitions for glory in the west.

    This was the final major offensive of the European theatre of World War II. The battle in which Hiler killed himself. Also known as the fall of Berlin. Russian victory saw the end of Hitler’s Third Reich and the occupation of the city by the Red Army before it was divided into four as a result of the wartime meetingsbetween the Allies.
