    Battle of France occurred from May 10, 1940 to June 25, 1940. This was an invasion of France from Germany. The battle is also known as the fall of France because Germany won. It only took about a week for a cease fire to be signed. It occurred in two waves, one to push out Frances defense and another to increase superiority. The miracle of Dunkirk was when they evacuated the retreated soldiers. This war is important because France can no longer support the allies because it has been taken over.
  • Battle of Britain

    Battle of Britain occurred from Jul. 10, 1940 to Oct. 31, 1940. This was the first defeat of Hitlers military forces. It was entirely fought by aircraft. It was the most sustained and largest aerial bombing at the time. Britain won and were able to maintain their participation in the war unlike France. The goal was to weaken the British air force so they could land troops in England. This was significant because it brought the Allies confidence that Germany could be defeated.

    Battle of Leningrad occurred from September 8, 1941 to January 22, 1944. The Germans surrounded the city of Leningrad and cut off trade and food. Almost 1,000,000 innocent civilians died. The Siege was only of secondary importance to Germany. It motivated a lot of the Soviet War effort. The city was mercilessly bombarded with air assaults and missiles during the siege. This was significant because it showed Germany's power and it motivated the soviet war effort.

    Battle of Stalingrad occurred from Jul. 17, 1942 to Feb. 2, 1943. This battle was the first major loss from the German army. It also stopped the advancement of Germany into eastern Europe and Russia. This lowered the morale of the German Army. This marked the turning of the tides in the war. Germany was no longer gaining territory, instead they were losing it. This is an important battle in the war because it boosted the confidence of the allies and put the allies on the offensive.

    Operation Torch happened from November 8 1942 to November 10 1942. Was an Allied Invasion of Northwest Africa that was supposed to remove Axis from the continent. The allies only lost 479 troops while the Axis power lost 1346. The operation consisted of three landings, each of which were successful. The German troops were retreating from another battle at the time. The Germans lost all of the resources they were gaining from Africa. This was important because it got the Axis power out of Africa.

    The battle of D Day, or the Invasion of Normandy, occurred from June 1944 to August 1944. The battle resulted in the freedom of France. An invasion of the continental Europe was necessary for the fall of Germany. It was considered to be the beginning of the end of World War ll. It was mostly an Invasion of the Western Forces. The element of surprise was key to the Allies victory. D Day is significant because it was the main allied invasion of Europe and it allowed the defeat of Germany.

    Battle of the Bulge occurred from Dec. 16, 1944 to Jan. 25, 1945. It was the last major offensive by the Germans. The Germans goal was to split the Allies forces in half and then make a peace treaty. The Germans lost and were eventually forced to surrender unconditionally. Hitler used those previously deemed unfit for this final attack. The German goal was to capture Antwerp for a tactical advantage. The significance of this war was the defeat of Germany came sooner with less Ally casualties.

    Battle of Berlin occurred from Apr. 16, 1945 to May 2, 1945. This was the final battle that ended the war as Hitler committed suicide afterwards. It was a battle in Berlin between the Soviet's and the Germans. The Germans began to run out of ammunition and Hitler realized he would lose. Berlin was seen as an important city to capture by both sides. The German generals inside of the city surrendered. This battle was important because it concluded World War ll and brought victory for the allies.
