Battle of France/Miracle of Dunkirk
-Code named Operation Dynamo
-The British Expeditionary Force was sent to help defend France (BFF)
-The BFF lost 68,000 soldiers
-This is an evacuation plan to go to Dunkirk To England
-June 4, when the Germans closed in and the operation came to an end, more than 338,000 soldiers were saved. In the days following the successful evacuation, the campaign became known as the “Miracle of Dunkirk.”
-It came to an end on June 4th, 1940 -
Battle of Britain
-This all occurred because of Hitler wanting to invade Britain
-The British developed an air defense network that would give them a critical advantage in the Battle of Britain.
-There was 3 different phases of this battle, for example,The Channel Battles (July 9 to August 11, 1940), The Eagle Attack (August 12 to 23), The Attack on Airfields( August 23 to September 16), The Blitz (7 September 1940 to 21 May 1941)
-It all finally came to an end on October 31, 1940 -
Battle of Leningrad
-Battle of Leningrad or "Siege Of Leningrad"
- German army surrounded the city of Leningrad in an extended siege beginning that September.
-There was a mass cannibalism because there was a lack of food and supplies.
-632,000 people had died, and nearly 4,000 died from starvation
- Germany invaded the soviet union in June 1941.
-It all came to an end on January 27,1944 -
Battle of Stalingrad
-This was the bloodiest wars in history
-There was about 2 million casualties
-September 3, 1942, the German Sixth Army under Paulus reached the outskirts of Stalingrad
-February 2, 1943, General Paulus surrendered what remained of his army-some 91,000 men. About 150,000 Germans had died in the fighting.
-It all finally came to an end February 2, 1943 -
Operation Torch
-It started in November 8th, 1942 and it ended on November 10th, 1942.
-It was the name given to the Allied invasion of French North Africa in November 1942. Operation Torch was the first time the British and Americans had jointly worked on an invasion plan together.
-Location: French Morocco and French Algeria

D-Day
-156,000 American, British and Canadian forces landed on five beaches along a 50-mile stretch of the heavily fortified coast of France’s Normandy region.
-Late August 1944, all of northern France had been liberated, & by the following spring the Allies had defeated the Germans.
-Happened after WW2, Germany invaded & occupied northwestern France beginning in May 1940.
-Hitler charged Rommel w/ finishing the Atlantic Wall, a 2,400-mile fortification of bunkers, landmines and beach & H20 obstacles -
Battle of the Bulge
-This was an attempt by Adolph Hitler to split the Allied armies in northwest Europe
-Heavy snowstorms had happened, the snow had caused frost bite and had men being suffocated from it
-They used newspapers as "socks"
-Germany runs out of supplies (see below)
-German shortage of fuel and the gallantry of American troops fighting in the frozen forests
-It all finally came to an end on January 25, 1945, because the allies have achieved victory -
Battle of Berlin
-Battle Of Berlin Began On April 16th, 1945 and ended on May 2nd, 1945.
-1,100,000 Soviet personnel who took part in the capture of Berlin were awarded with the Medal "For the Capture of Berlin".
-20 armies,6,300 tanks and 8,500 aircraft
-Western Allies were 60 miles west of the German capital, though Dwight Eisenhower seemed to be moving south of Berlin to prevent top German brass from escaping to the southern mountains.
-The German troops, at this time, were hurt and demoralized
