In school, we were assigned to read different books. Although the books were boring, it helped me figure out which types of books I found myself interested in.

The first book I read was Wonder. I bought this book from savings I had, money given to me for my birthday or some special event. It was my first book and it was quite a long one to start with.

After 2 years, I still could not fit in. The use of computers instead of books, the language, the people, I did not fit in. During 6th and 7th grade I learned a lot about this country and how to do better with my reading and writing. Getting terrible grades in my essays helped me be better.

During eighth grade, because I have always been pretty good with spelling, I studied hard to win it that year. I ended up winning the classroom and whole school spelling bee. I went on to the Bridgeport city wide spelling bee which I ended up in between the top 10.

After 3 years, my English had gotten better. In Eighth grade, my grades were immaculate, helping me win Student of the Year. As a reward, I got an iPad and a diploma given by the city to the best students.

In my Pre-Ap English II class I learned a lot. My teacher was pretty cool, which helped me have A's in that class and improve my writing and reading.

Now, I try to read every time I have free time or work some way towards improving my vocabulary.
