Born in Anchiano, Tuscany (now Italy), in 1452, close to the town of Vinci. -
His parents weren’t married and his mother left him alone to start a new family with another man. At the age of 5 he lived on the estate that his fathers family owned. Da Vinci's uncle raised him. -
Received no formal education other than the basics (reading, writing and math)

His father liked his art skills and took him at the age of 15 to learn how to sculpt from Andrea del verrocchio. -
Leonardo was offered a membership by painters' guild of Florence but denied and stayed with his teacher Andrea. -
He became an independent master on his own, his first commissioned work being an altered piece of the chapel -
He worked on a 16 foot tall equestrian statue for 12 years. In 1493, it was done, but war occurred and they turned the sculpture into cannons. -
He painted the last supper while he was in milan, from 1495-1498 which was a tempera and oil plaster. -
When the French invaded Milan, Da Vinci fled to Venice and then to Florence. While he was there he painted “La Gioconda,” or, the “Mona Lisa” -
Da vinci left Italy for good in 1516 when the french ruler generously offered him a grand title. Letting him paint at his leisure and live in a country manner house. Da vinci died in Cloux in 1519 at age 67, buried in. in the palace church of Saint-Florentin.
