In 1787 The southern States wanted to count their enslaved population as a part of the census in order to gain more representation in congress. The North was against this saying since they couldn't vote they should not be counted. The Compromise would be that for every 5 enslaved people 3 would be counted towards the state's population. Beginning of heavy disagreement between the north and south when it comes to slavery. -
when Missouri became a State, it entered as a slave state which created unbalance which the north did not like. Which then lead to the comprise which allowed Missouri to enter as a slave state and Main as a free state along with creating a dividing line basically between the north and south in which any state above would be Free and any State below could be a slave State this line was called the (36,30) line. This created the first official division on a map between the 2 sides. -
The Nat Turner rebellion was a very large Slave Revolt led by Nat Turner in Virginia. Turner believed he was sent by God to free slaves and lead this revolt. It resulted in the deaths of around 55 to 65 white individuals making it one of the deadliest slave revolts in US history. -

Attempted to lead a revolt by attacking a US armory in Virgina intending to capture and use all the weapons in order to free nearby slaves to lead to more uprisings. In November 1860 a relatively new and unknown political figure in Abraham Lincoln wins the presidential election without winning a single southern State being a super open anti-slavery voice and now President the souths see this as a threat to their rights and way of life leading to many southern successions from the US. -
After the election of Abraham Lincon and the following successions of the southern states as a form of Protest against the newly elected president. They eventually form the Confederacy and elect Jefferson Davis as the President of this newly form "Nation"
