    Samuel is born

    He was born to Elkanah and Hannah in 1129. His mom really wanted a child and Samuel was born. After he was born, his mom dedicated him to God. After he was weaned, he was sent to live in the temple with Eli. His mom would visit him once a year.

    Samuel's life

    He was dedicated to God as a baby. He grew up in the temple and helped out Eli in the temple. He grew up to be a prophet and he anointed two kings in his lifetime (King Saul and King David).

    He sent a lot of his reign chasing David. He started out humble but the longer he reigned, the more proud he became.

    David's life

    David started out as a shepherd in Bethlehem. He killed Goliath and then became Saul's armor bearer. He became friends with Jonathan. Soon Saul made him a military general. He became so successful, that Saul became jealous of him and tried to kill him. Saul died and David was king. He was very successful in his military. He had 8 wives and 20 kids. He died a natural death.

    David came to the battle and saw Goliath. Saul, who was king at the time, wanted someone to kill Goliath. David offered to kill him. He killed him with a sling and a stone. Then he cut off Goliath's head.

    Saul died in the battle of Mount Gilboa. Saul asked his armor bearer to kill him, he refused, so Saul killed himself and so did the armor bearer.

    He had many military victories before and during his reign. Two different people tried to take the throne from him. He marries a couple more wives, making it a total of eight wives.

    While Joab is out conquering, David is at home. He sees a beautiful woman bathing on her rooftop and asks his servants to ask who she is and get her. It turns out that she is Bathsheba, Uriah's wife. Uriah is one of David's mighty men. He sleeps with Bathsheba and she gets pregnant. David tries to get Uriah to sleep with her to make it look like he got her pregnant. It doesn't work, so David ends up killing Uriah in battle and he then marries Bathsheba.

    Amnon rapes Tamar. Absalom killed Amnon because Tamar was Absalom's full sister.
  • Absalom's Revolt

    Absalom's Revolt

    Absalom steals the heart of Israel. He crowns himself king and sleeps with David's concubines. When Absalom was fleeing, his hair caught on the branches of a tree and his donkey runs away. Joab finds him and throws a bunch of spears at him. The Absalom dies and David weeps.

    Solomon's reign

    In his reign, he killed Shemai in the first year of his reign, he acquired 700 wives, 300 concubines, so much gold and silver that it was as common as normal stones, he also had lots of other riches. Solomon built the temple of God. His wives and concubines turned his heart away from God.

    Who was Hiram? Hiram was the king of Tyre which means he was from Tyre. He sent servants to Solomon to help build the temple.

    In the beginning of his reign, Solomon used his wealth to glorify God by building the temple. After the temple was finished, they brought the ark and put it in the temple. After that Solomon blesses the Lord and dedicates the temple to God. He then prays a benediction and offers a bunch of sacrifices (2200 oxen, 120000 sheep, and grain).

    When she visited, she gave Solomon 120 talents of gold, a lot of spices, and precious stones. This takes place in I kings 10 and II Chronicles 9. These chapters describes all of Solomon's riches.

    Because of Solomon's sins, he had ten tribes of Israel taken from him. Rehoboam (in the line of David) took two tribes and Jeroboam took the other ten tribes.

    He didn’t listen to the council of the wise. Old men and instead listened to the council of the naive young men. Rehoboam also increases the taxes. He imposed even harder work on the people than Solomon did, and the punishments were even worse. He also made idols and worshiped them.

    He built two golden cows in the first year of his reign. Jeroboam was not a godly king. A man of God told him that a righteous king would come out of David's line and then Jeroboam said, "Seize him," and he stretched out his hand and it dried up.

    He was the son of Rehoboam. He had 14 wives, 22 sons, and 16 daughters. His son Asa succeeded him as king. His heart was not entirely devoted to the Lord. He worshiped idols. He reigned when Jeroboam reigned. He reigned over Judah. He was not a good king. He went to war with Jeroboam and won because his soldiers cried out to God.

    Asa's Reign

    He tore down idols and helped Judah return to God. He was a good king. During his reign, he constantly fought Baasha, king of Israel. His reign was pretty peaceful. He was the son of Abijam. He reigned over Judah.

    Nadab's Reign

    He was the son of Jeroboam. He reigned two years. He was the second king of the Northern Kingdom (Israel). He was not a good king. He was killed by Baasha.

    He was the king of Israel. Killed King Nadab and killed the entire royal family. His dynasty was taken away from him because of his son. He was a bad king.

    Zerah had a million men and 300 chariots, while Asa only had 580,000 men. So Asa prayed to God and God helped them defeat Zerah. None of the Ethiopians survived. They took lots of spoil.

    Azariah prophesied that if they worship God only, God will be with them. Asa makes everyone to take a vow saying that whoever has idols will be put to death. His grandmother had an idol of Asherah. He most likely killed her because of the vow.

  • Asa's deal with Syria

    Asa's deal with Syria

    Baasha builds a wall to keep the Israelites from defecting to Asa. Asa pays the king of Syria to attack Israel. He then tore down the wall and used the materials to build forts and stuff. A prophet tells him that since they made a deal with Syria, he will have war for the rest of his reign. He threw the prophet into jail.

    He got a foot disease and does not seek God's help but instead that of humans. His mistake was not trusting God and relying on himself. He dies from the foot disease.

    Elijah and the drought

    Elijah tells Ahab that since there was so much violence in Israel, that God will send a drought. He goes to a brook and God sends ravens to take care of him. In the middle of the drought, the brook dries up. So God sends him to Zarephath and a widow takes care of him.

    Ahab's Reign

    He was the king of Israel and he was not a good king. He was the son of Omri. There was drought in the three years of his reign. Elijah was alive during his reign. He married Jezebel who was a prophetess of Asheroth.

    He was the son of Asa. He reigned over Judah and he was a good king. He followed the ways of his father Asa and did not stray from them; he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord. He made many religious reforms. His biggest mistake was allying w/ Ahab. God blessed his kingdom w/ peace during his reign. He had an army of 180000. At the end of his reign, he helped Ahaziah build ships to go to Tarshish. Eliezer prophesied that God would destroy the ships that they had built. The ships wrecked.

    After his brook dried up, he goes to Zarephath and meets a widow. He asks for food, and she says she only has a bit of flour and oil. Elijah asks if she could make him some bread. She gives the bread to Elijah and when she goes back, she sees that the flour and the oil had been refilled. He stays with her for a while.

    The widow he was living with had a son. The son died and she talked to Elijah. He pray and lays down on him three times. On the third time, the son was alive. Then the widow finally believed (she had not believed when the flour and the oil were being refilled).

    God told him to go to Ahab. He went to his household and meet Obadiah who was hiding prophets of God in caves because Jezebel was trying to kill them. He told Obadiah to tell Ahab that he was here to meet him. They met and Elijah told Ahab to gather all of Israel on Mount Caramel.

    Ahab gathered all of Israel (except Jezebel) on Mt. Caramel. Elijah said that if Baal is real, ask him to send down fire for the sacrifice. So they cry out to Baal and he doesn't answer. At noon Elijah started mocking them, so they cut themselves w/ their swords lances. It didn't work and they gave up.

    Elijah build man altar and puts a moat of water around it. He told someone to get 4 jars of water and fill each one 3x and dump it on the altar and the wood. Then Elijah asks God to send fire. God sends the fire and the fire burnt the burnt offering, the wood, the stones, the dust, and all the water in the moat. Then the people worship God. Elijah tells him to seize the prophets of Baal. He kills them at a brook.

    Elijah tells Ahab to eat. Elijah goes to the top of Mt Carmel and bows down and puts he head between his knees. He tells his servant to look for clouds and servant didn't see anything, so Elijah told him to go again. He did this 7x. On the 7th time, the servant sees a small cloud. He tells Ahab to prepare his chariots. Then the sky was full of clouds and it rained. Ahab went to Jezreel and Elijah runs there, beats him, and meets him at Jezreel.

    Ahab told Jezebel all that had happened on Mt Carmel. She made a vow that if she doesn't kill Elijah in the next 24 hours, she would die. She sent messengers to all the land. He runs away into the wilderness. Elijah asks God to kill him. He slept and then an angel woke him up. The angel gave Elijah food. He ate and fell asleep again. Again the angel wakes him up and makes him eat. The food gave him strength for the next 40 days nights w/o eating or sleeping. He goes to Mt Horeb, the Mt of God.

    He went into a cave. God told him to leave the cave and stand on the mt. There was a strong wind but God wasn't in it. After the wind, an earthquake but God was not in it. Then there was a fire but God was not in it. Then there was a soft whisper. Then God said to anoint Hazel (king of Syria), Jehu, and Elisha.

    Ben-hadad was winning the battle. He asked Ahab for all his silver, gold, his best wives, and his children. Then he sent messengers saying that Ahab can die or let him raid his palace. Ahab gathers his elders and they decide to ignore it. Then Ben-hadad starts a drinking party.

    Ahab wanted Naboth’s vineyard because he wanted a veggie garden close to his house. He offered a lot of money but Naboth still didn’t let him buy it. Ahab went home sulked and told Jezebel. She told everyone that Naboth cursed God and Ahab. Naboth was stoned. Ahab got it. Elijah prophesied that Ahab's entire family would die. Ahab repents and God says that all this will happen after he dies since he repented.

    Syria and Israel were still in war. He calls Jehoshaphat and asks him if they should go to battle. Jehoshaphat says that they should ask a prophet of God. They call Micaiah. He prophesies that Ahab will die in battle.

    Ahab (king of Israel) and Jehoshaphat (king of Judah) went to Ramoth-gilead and Ahab disguised himself but Jehoshaphat wore his kingly robes. The Syrians tried to kill Jehoshaphat. He cried out and asked God to spare him. There was a man that was shooting randomly. He shot Ahab with an arrow and he died.

    The Moabites, Ammonites, and the Meunites attack Jehoshaphat. He goes to God and asks for help. Jahaziel a prophet says that God will fight the battle for him. Then they praise God. They ambushed and destroyed the Moabites. It took them 3 days to get all the spoil back to where they were staying. When they returned, everyone was praising God. All the countries were afraid of Judah because the Lord delivered Judah.

    Moab rebelled against Israel in the 2nd year of his reign. While this happened, Ahaziah was sick because he fell through a lattice in Samria. He sent messengers to ask Baal-zebub if he will recover. The messengers went and then returned. The king asked them why the came back. They said that they met a man that said that the king will die.

    Then Ahaziah sent an army of 50 with a commander. Elijah sent a fire that consumed them. Then the king sent 50 more people with a commander. Elijah sent fire down from heaven. It burned up the 50 with the commander. Then the angel of the Lord told Elijah to go to the king. Elijah told the king that he would die. He died. Since he didn't have any sons, Jehoram became king.

The prophets in Bethel told Elisha that Elijah will die soon. He said that he knows. Then the same thing happened again. So they went to Jericho. The prophets at Jericho told Elisha that God will take Elijah to Heaven. Elisha says he knows. The same happens and they go 2 Jordan. Then Elijah parts the Jordan.

    King Jehoram and King Jehoshaphat ally. Moab rebels. The kings March in the wilderness and run out of water. They get Elisha and he prophesies that water will be provided and there will be victory. The next morning there is water in a dry streambed. The Moabites think it's blood and that the allies killed each other. They try to plunder the camp but they are defeated. When the king of Moab saw he was losing, he sacrificed his oldest son.

    Elisha went to Damascus cuz Ben-hadad king of syria was sick. Benhadad asked Hazel to go to Elisha and ask if he will recover. He took 40 camels of stuff w/ them. Elisha told him that he will recover but he will die. Then Elisha wept. The next day Hazel killed Ben-hadad with a wet cloth.

    Jehu kills Ahaziah and Jehoram

    Elisha sends a young man to Jehu king. God told him to kill all of Ahab's family to avenge for the prophets killed by Jezebel. King Joram of Israel and King Ahaziah come out to meet Jehu. Joram asks is it peace? Jehu says no and as he flees he cries treachery and Jehu shoots him with an arrow. Ahaziah later dies from some injuries.

    Jehu says he will worship Baal like never before. He gathers all the prophets and followers of Baal in the temple. He asks if there are any followers of God in there. Once all the followers of God leave, he orders his officials to kill everyone. Then he turns the temple of Baal into a latrine.

    He was the king of Judah. He was not a good king. He started his reign at the age of 22. He only reigned one year.
  • Jehu kills Jezebel

    Jehu kills Jezebel

    Jehu goes to Jezreel and Jezebel hears this. She puts on makeup, makes her hair fancy, and looks out the window. When he enters, she asks him if his reign will be as peaceful as Zimri's (he reigned for a short time). Jehu asks if anyone is on his side. Some of the people in the castle push her out the window. She falls down and dies. Her body is trampled by Jehu's chariot. Jehu goes to eat. Then he tells some men to bury her. They find only her skull, feet, and hands because the dogs ate her.

    Jehu kills all of Ahab's descendants

    Jehu makes the officials in Samaria chop the heads off of all 70 of Ahab's sons, put their heads in baskets, and send them to Jezreel. On the way to Samaria, he kills 42 of King Ahaziah's relatives. He meets Jehonadab and asks if he is loyal. He says yes and rides in Jehu's chariot with him.

    Athaliah tries to kill all of the people of the royal line of Judah. Jehoiada the priest and his wife hide Joash in the temple for 6 years.

    Jehu's reign

    He reigned over Israel. He was the best of all the kings of Israel (all of the kings of Israel worshipped false gods making them bad kings). He killed Ahaziah (king of Judah) and Jehoram (king of Israel). He wiped out Baal from Israel. Even though he wiped out all the prophets of Baal, he still worshipped the golden calves in Bethel and Dan.

    When she started her reign, she killed all the royal family of Judah (all of David's family) except Joash. Joash was hidden in the temple by Jehoiada the priest. Joash was crowned king and Athaliah heard all the noise. When she sees what happened, she cried treason. Jehoiada sees her and tells somebody to kill her but not in the house of the Lord. They killed her at the entrance of the horse gate of the king's house

    He was king over Israel. He was not a good king. He was the son of Jehu. He led Israel into idolatry. As a punishment, God let Hazel oppress Israel. He prayed and God gave him a temporary deliverer. However, Israel did not turn away from idolatry. God let Hazel defeat him again and again.

    Joash kills his cousin/adoptive brother, Zechariah

    After Jehoiada's death, Joash turned to idolatry. When his cousin/adoptive brother, Zechariah called him out, he stoned him in the temple courtyard. As he was dying, Zechariah cursed Joash by saying, “May the Lord see what they are doing and avenge my death!”

    He reigned over Israel. He was not a good king. He worshipped the Golden calves of Jeroboam. He went to war with King Amaziah, the king of Judah.

    Then Aramean army attacked Judah. He tried to appease them with gold from the temple. When they withdrew, they left Joash severely wounded. His servants conspired against him and killed him.

When the men are burying the other man, they saw invaders. They threw the body in Elisha's tomb. The man was revived and chased after the other men.

When faced with demands for surrender and blasphemy against God, Hezekiah prayed. God miraculously destroyed the Assyrian army, saving Jerusalem. He got sick and he asked God to not let him die. God gave him fifteen more years. He showed the Babylonians the temple treasury and God said his son will be punished..

He prayed to God and realized that the Lord is God. God delivered him. He rebuilt the outer wall and tore down the idolatry. He served God for the rest of his reign.

The people then followed God and kept His commands.

In the spring of the year King Nebuchadnezzar took Jehoiachin to Babylon. Many treasures from the Temple of the Lord were also taken to Babylon at that time. And Nebuchadnezzar installed Jehoiachin’s uncle, Zedekiah, as the next king in Judah and Jerusalem.

Furthermore, all the leaders of the priests and the people became more and more unfaithful, following all the detestable practices of the nations and defiling the temple of the Lord, which he had consecrated in Jerusalem.

    King Nebuchadnezzar appointed Gedaliah son of Ahikam as governor over Judah. Gedaliah established his residence at Mizpah and encouraged the remaining Jews and scattered army captains to settle, promising they would be safe if they served the king of Babylon. However, in the seventh month, Ishmael son of Nethaniah, who was of the royal family, came with ten men and assassinated Gedaliah, as well as the Judeans and Babylonians who were with him. Then the people fled to Egypt.
