    Treaty of Versailles
    A peace settlement signed after WWI had ended. It was signed at the vast Versailles Palace near Paris between Germany and the allies and hundreds of people were involved in the process.
  • German Anschluss with Austria

    German Anschluss with Austria
    After the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the majority of the German speaking people in Austria wanted to unite with the new German Republic but this wasn't allowed by the terms of the Treaty of Versailles. Demands for the union (Anschluss) of Austria and Germany increased after Adolf Hitler became German Chancellor. In February, 1938, Hitler invited Kurt von Schuschnigg, the Austrian Chancellor, to meet him at Berchtesgarden. Hitler demanded concessions for the Austrian Nazi Party.

    The attack on Pearl Harbor was the entry of the U.S into WWII. On the morning of the 7th of December, 1941, the Japanese army conducted a surprise military attack against the U.S Naval base. The attack was intended as a preventive action in order to keep the U.S. Pacific Fleet from interfering with military actions the Empire of Japan was planning in Southeast Asia against overseas territories of the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and the United States.

    The u.s president at the time made the decision to use the atomic bomb on Hiroshima to end the world war as he thought that dropping the bomb would cause less of a loss for Japan than having the u.s army invade. It was dropped at 8:16 am(Japanese time) and killed 80 000 people just from the blast of the bomb, more were injured many and died before the end of the year because of the radiation

    The bomb was dropped at 11:02am,1650 feet above the city and unleashed the equivalent force of 22 000 tons of TNT. This ended up killing 60 000 to 80 000 people and resulted in Japan surrendering.

    At the Tehran Conference, Stalin agreed that the Soviet Union would enter the war against Japan once Nazi Germany was defeated. At the Yalta Conference, Stalin agreed to Allied pleas to enter World War II's Pacific Theater within three months of the end of the war in Europe. On July 26, the US, UK and China made the Potsdam Declaration, an ultimatum calling for the Japanese surrender which if ignored would lead to their "prompt and utter destruction".
  • Japanese Surrender

    Japanese Surrender
    After the dropping of two atomic bombs on Japanese cities, the emperor of Japan announced the surrender of Japan to the Allies. The surrender ceremony was held on September 2nd and aboard the United States Navy battleship USS Missouri, at which officials from the Japanese government signed the Japanese Instrument of Surrender, thereby ending the hostilities.
