  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre was an event that took place on the streets of Boston town. It started when 4,000 british soldiers were sent to boston. Many colonists didn't want the soldiers in their town. Near the Massachusetts State House there was a anrgy crowd (or mob) that shouted and therw rocks and snowballs at a group of British soldiers. As the crowd moved forward, the soldiers fired. The first killed was Crispus Attucks, an African American sailor,then four more were killed.

    The Boston Tea Party was a protest to the tea act. The tea act was a law that only East India Comany of Great Britain could sell tea to the colonists and they have to pay tax on it. Many boycotted tea, But on the night of Dec. 6, 1773 about 150 members of the Sons of Liberty dressed as Indians and went to Bosotn Harbor. Led by Samuel Adams and Pual Revere, they dumped over 300 chests into the harbor.

    Leadersfrom all the colonies except Georgia met in Philadelphia. The Congress sent a signed request to King George the 3rd. The petition ,or signed request, reminded the king the colonists' basic rightsas British citizens and asked the colonies to form militias. Congress agreed to stop most trade with Great Britain.

    "Give me liberty or give me death" - Patrick Henry. Patrick Henry was an outspoken member of the Virginia House of Burgesses. He words inspired other colonists and became a favorite patriotic slogan.

    The British moved on to Concord after Lexington. Also there were Minutemen agian. After fighting the British fell back, or retreated, to Boston. The fighting at Lexington and Concord was the first armed conflict in a war called the American Revolution.

    British soldier marched toward the towns of Lexington and Concord. They goal in to arrest two leaders of the Sons of Liberty. The plan was secret, till Pual Revere found out. He rode to Lexington to warn the militia. The Minutemen ,or militia, were waiting for the British soldiers. Their leader shouted " Don't fire unless fired upon, but if they mean war, let it begin here." No one knows who shot first, but it heared around the world. 8 Minutemenwere killed and several others were injured.

    The Declaration of Independce is a document that was mianly written by Thomas Jefferson. This document states that sometimes that people have no choice but to form a new nation, to set up governments to protect thier rights, and lists the colonists' grievances, or complaints, against King George the III.
