Started in 1941 and ended in 1943. It was Germany invading parts of Russia. It was the major turning point in the war for Europe. Nazi Germany fought the Soviet Union for control over Stalingrad, Russia. At times, Germany controlled 90% of the city, but couldn't obtain the remnants. As winter arrived in Russia, the Germany were finally made weak enough to defeat.

This siege lasted for 900 days until the 27th January 1944. Germany tried to gain control of Leningrad by surrounding it and preventing everyone leaving. There was one escape route that some people were evacuated by. During these months it is estimated that 800,000 people died, 200,000 of cold and starvation due to lack of supplies, but the people never gave in. Germany lost.

The Attack of the Japanese on Pearl Harbour. They managed to destroy an extremely large amount of US Navy ships and artillery without warning. Roosevelt brought back the US afterwards.

Japan aimed to invade Australia. The war was between Australia and Japan. Japan was defeated, they called off the invasion. In the Coral Sea between Australia and Papua New Guinea.

In Guadalcanal, in the South of the Solomon Islands. The aim was for the US to prevent Japan using the islands. Japan was defeated by the US. The battle took 6 months.

In North Africa. Allied victory over Germany when it surrenders.

Destroyed Japan's naval strength. It was the turning point for the war in the Pacific. At Midway Island, a US Naval base, about 1,700km from Hawaii, next step after Pearl Harbour. Japan lost, it was the beginning of the end of the war.

If this island was controlled in Sicily, Italy, most of the Mediterranean could be controlled. The US forces invaded before Germany could. It was a US victory.

Hitler wanted Normandy, France as it was a strategic area. The Allied forces invaded and established Normandy to get it back. Allied victory.

19 February - 26 March. Iwo Jima, Japan. American victory. US fought for and captured Iwo Jima from the Empire of Japan.

1 April - 21 June. Okinawa, Japan. Allied victory against the Japanese. Largest amphibious assault of the Pacific War. US wanted to use the island for a naval base for the planned Japan invasion. 100,000 Japanese troops were killed and 65,00 US.

Hiroshima 6 August. 9 August Nagasaki. US bombed Japan. Japan surrendered, end to the war. Allied victory. The Hiroshima bomb was called 'Little Boy' and the Nagasaki bomb was called 'Fat Man'.
