    In 1867 Marx published his first volume of Das Kapital. Throughout Das Kapital, he gives his ideas of the capitalist system and its tendencies towards self-destruction.     In March of 1867, Alaska was purchased by the US. Secretary of State William H. Steward agreed to purchase it for $7.2 Million. Major discoveries of gold were later found there, Alaska went on to become a state in 1946. (America's library 1)

    Canadian Confederation formed
    This was the process by which the federal Dominion of Canada was formed, officially beginning on July 1, 1867. Three British colonies were formed into four Canadian provinces. The British Province of Canada was divided into the new Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec, and two other British colonies, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, also became provinces of Canada.   • Suez Canal opened

    Suez Canal opened
    The Suez Canal was opened on Nov. 17, 1869. The ceremony was attended by Napoleon III's wife, French Empress Eugénie. When it opened, the Suez Canal was only 25 feet deep, 72 feet wide at the bottom, and 200 to 300 feet wide at the surface. Consequently, fewer than 500 ships navigated it in its first full year of operation. By 1876 major improvements were made. (history.com 1)
