They use the funds to make elite team of soldiers called "cobra unit". Soldiers were: the pain, the fear, the end, the fury and the sorrow (all of them soldier's names). All of the soldiers led by "the joy" aka "the boss". -
Sorrow and boss were in a relationship and on D-day boss gives birth to their son (Ocelot) in Normandy on the battlefield. The philosopher's agents took away the child immediatly. -
American and Soviet philosophers begin to "disagree" that eventually causes the cold war. Colonel Boris Vulcan (philophers member) steals the legacy by hiding it in banks accounts across world and storing the only record of transaction on a microfilm. -

In one of her secret missions the boss finds John, an 15 year-old kid and trains him (over next 10 years) to become an efficient soldier. They also invent new combat technique: CQC=close quarters combat.

Nikolai Solokov (soviet union scientist) works on a tank capable of launching nuclear warhead called Shagohod. When realizing how dangerous this is, he tries to escape Russia with his family but he's captured in Berlin. -
Major Zero, a special forces expert and ally of the boss creates XOF (an even more secret group to support FOX technically) which Skull face is in charge of. -
FOX aka force operation X is created by CIA, to do suppersecret missions. -
The boss is forced to kill Sorrow to prevent their son (Ocelot) from being executed by the Philosopher's. -
Snake is being interrogated (being tortured with electroshock). Boss, Ocelot and Eva are watching this. Ocelot thinks that Eva is a spy and threats her with russian roulette. To prevent from hurting her, Snake swings into Ocelot and the bullet get in his eye. They escape and destroy the facility after defeating Volgin. -
The government recognizes his effort and gives him the title of Big boss. However, he leaves FOX as he didn't like how he and the boss were treated just to cover up their "mess ups". -
U.S. needs to prove the USSR that they they didn't threw the nuke, Naked Snake (John) needs to eliminate Volgin and Boss. He meets Eva (who is his supposed partner). Snake defeats living members of Cobra Unit and goes to Volgin's fortress of Grozny ground but he's captured when trying to rescue Sokolov. -
Volgin wants to use Philosopher's legacy to make more shagohods and start a nuclear war with US. -
The Shagohod emerges from facility but Eva and Snake "destroy it" after a chasing scene (technically a lightning bolt kills Volgin and destroys the Shagohog) -
Boss confronts Snake, however he kills her and finally she gives the legacy to Snake. -
After spending the night with Snake in Alaska, she runs away leaving a "goodbye" note (and a tape explaining boss's true mission and how she wasn't a traitor) and stealing the legacy (as she is a chinese spy given that mission). However, she took the fake one (as Ocelot took the real one)

Naked Snake has to contact Sokolov and return him to west (while the boss retrieves legacy). When he was about to evacuate with Sokolov, the boss breaks his arm (incapacitating him) and takes Sokolov to Russia. The boss gives a nuke to Colonel Volga who blows up a Soviet research facility (the U.S. seem to do it because the nuke was made by U.S.) -
Ocelot, Major Zero, Eva, Big boss, SIGINT and paramedic create the patriots which are a modern version of the Philosophers. They want to fulfill boss's last wishes -
The patriots become more and more interested in power. Zero renames him and the patriots cipher. -
Zero and Big boss disagree on which were boss's last wishes. As Zero doesn't want to loose Big boss as the face of organization he clones him in the LIT project. Eva carries the Twin Snakes (with Big boss's DNA) and gives birth. Big boss leaves the patriots as he was dissapointed by this. Eva also leaves eventually. -
David (Solid) was born along Liquid Snake (his twin). He becomes a green beret as a teen, eventually joins Foxhound (Big boss special unit). Big boss knows his identity and gives him the name of Solid Snake, he trains him in CQC. He know Koz Miller but calls him Master Miller.

Big boss and Miller (guy he met while completing mission) creates the militaries sans frontier, which provides military force to any nation just like the boss would've wanted it. -
a lot of events happen involving Costa Rica's need of forces. A cipher agent wanted to manipulate big boss into getting back with Cipher (Paz Ortega) but she's unsuccesful and is killed by big boss. Msf expands to a global force. -
Paz Ortega survived and big boss suggest to kill her (as she knows MSF secrets). Big boss and Koz decide to save Paz and Chico (former MSF member). Once Paz and Chico are rescued MSF noticed XOF leader Skull-face had implanted two bombs in Paz's body (but medics get one of them removed via surgery). They escape Mother base (which was being destroyed by XOF) but Paz's second bomb explodes while she jumps out of the helicopter. The explosion is so near that Big boss and Koz are considered dead. -
He got more cynical over years, he believes soldier are used and abused (he truly believes in The boss's ideas). He makes a new military nation: Outer Heaven. -
Big boss awakens from coma. He and the medic (a big boss clone) escape the hospital after numerous crazy events. They were finally escaping in an ambulance but it crashes. He travels to Afghanistan with Ocelot after being saved by him and he's given a new identity (the medic would act as big boss now). -
Venom Snake (big boss clone) forms Diamond Dogs while hunting Cipher down and expanding new motherbase. His new mission is to stop Skull-face (who wants to unify the whole world using new T-Saahil metal gear weapon). Skull-face begs to die after his plan turned against him. Eli (teammate) and third child turn against Diamond dogs, which later turns out they're Liquid Snake (Eli) and Pschyco Mantis (third child). -
Gray fox (operative named Frank Jegger) carried the operation and got information about the metal gear, when he was about to tell Foxhound he is captured. -
Big boss returns to the US as Foxhound commander. Venom Snake (big boss's clone) leads the OHU and forces scientist to build Metal gear TX55. Government acknowledge this and sent big boss to eliminate threat. -
Solid snake has his first assignment for Foxhound, rescue gray fox and secure the information. After events, Solid snake destroys metal gear but he stumbles with Venom snake in his escape. They fight and solid snake defeats him, and he escapes Outer Heaven before it self-destructs. -
Big boss and army participate in mercenary war. Takes places in Zanzibar province (USSR) that becomes Zanzibar land (Big boss being the president). Recruits a lot of people (plus Gray Fox) and to ensure survival of ZL creates Metal gear D. -
Solid snake is tasked (even though he's retired) to rescue scientist dr. Marv that discovered new type of energy source (but got kidnapped in zanzibar land). Solid snake defeats black ninja (leader of Outer heaven resistance), Metal gear-D and Gray fox. Snake comfronts Big boss and he states their fight will continue. He fights the og Big boss and wins. -
Snake is called again (after retiring) for a mission in shadow moses island after a nuclear strike, he needs to recue SIGGINT and Kenneth. He finds SIGGINT and get information of a new metal gear, but when they were going to escape SIGGINT dies. Snake escapes with the help of Meryl (Foxhound recruit) and he finds Kenneth. Kenneth was being captured by Ocelot, Snakes fights him and his hand is cut off by a ninja. -
Snake follows the ninja who was a cyborg version of Gray fox and defeats him. Snake was going to destroy Metal gear-rex, battleling on his way with Vulcan raven, psycho mantis and sniper wolf (the top soliders of foxhound). Snake encounters Liquid snake, who activated metal gear-rex but dies because of a virus. Snake also got the virus and make him vulnerable sometimes, he also got convinced by all this people that he belongs to the battlefield. -
Snake hides after the SMI and survivor Ocelot reports it to the president (George sears, who is the third clone of big boss, Solidus Snake). Liquid Ocelot is "created" after Ocelot transplants Liquid's arm into his own combining themselves. -
Liquid Ocelot wants to sell Metal gear-rex in black market. Snake and Otacon create an organisation called philantropy to eliminate all metal gear technology. -
Philantropy acknowledge a new metal gear (Metal gear-ray) is being transported in an oil tanker. Snake's mission is to prove the existence of the metal gear by taking footage. Snakes gets the footage but liquid ocelot is there and detonates explosives to sink the boat. Liquid Ocelot steals the metal gear and escapes; Snake escapes too. Patriots framed Snake into making believe the world that he let the boat be destroyed. -
Big shell (a facility that is believed to clean oil of the tanker incident is instead a cover-up for a new metal gear development). Snake infiltrates the facility to rescue hostages and president and prevent Sons of liberty (Russian group) from blowing up the place. Snake along Raiden deactivate explosives armed by Fat-Man (from SOL). One explosive couldn't be deactivated and Stillman (who was helping Snake) dies. -
Snake and raiden are attacked by Solidus snake (leader of SOL) who uses snake's identity, Snake reveals his identity as Solid Snake. Raiden discovers the patriots have controlled all the US president for generations and tells the truth about Solidus (he tell Snake he is another clone). Snake and Raiden put a computer virus in arsenal gear, after events they encounter Ocelot and he reveals he's agent of the Patriots. -
Liquid Snake posseses Ocelot and tells Snake that it was all a plan to get him there so metal gear ray could kill the patriots. Raiden defeats Solidus and Snake reveals that his plan was to find the patriots. -
Snake's body start rapidly aging, doctor have no clue but us players know is because of the rapid-development genes he has (when he was younger) -
It is revealed that the virus was Liquid Ocelot's plan to fulfill Big boss's dream. In a duel Ocelot succumbs and reveals that he wasn't really possesed by Liquid Snake, he just faked it to distract the patriots. After this, Snake attempts suicide (knowing that his virus would spread) in big boss's fake grave but he's interrupted by og big boss and Major zero. -
Doctors tell Snake he has a year to live. Snake reintroduces himself as Old Snake. The world is controlled by military companies, Liquid Ocelot is leading a new Outer Heaven which is the lesder of five of the biggest companies in the world. Snake wants to kill Liquid Ocelot, his first attempt fails. He is told that is he doesn't die soon the virus in his body will spread causing a pandemic. He is also told that liquid wants big boss's body to access the AI of the Patriots, accesing all PMCS -
Liquid obtains BB's body and shuts every PMC except his own and wants to destroy the Patriot's AI to be fully in control. To do so he needs Metal gear rex (which was "destroyed" in shadow moses island), he obtains it and return to Outer Haven (not Heaven, which is his battleship). Snake and his team infiltrate the ship by using a computer virus (fox alive), which was also programmed to destroy the patriots AI in the process. -
Be reveals how Zero was forced to make economy dependant on military, and also how he has the new version of Foxdie (Snake has the version that doesn't mutate). Big boss turns off Zero's oxigen tank killing the last of the patriots but then he dies. His last words are that Snake must live his life to the fullest not as Snake but as a man. Snake quits his harmful habits and lives the rest of his life in peace.
