John Dupré

  • Beginnings

    John A. Dupré was born on July 3rd 1952, and is a well known British Philosopher who focuses on the Importance of the Philosophy of Biology.
  • Education

    John A. Dupré earned his Masters' Degree in 1980 from the University of Oxford. Dupré currently holds a PhD in Philosophy which he earned from the University of Cambridge in 1981.Dupré also spent time at Oxford and held a position Stanford University Department of Philosophy from 1982 to 1996.

    From 1982 to 1996 Dupré held several positions in the Philosophy program at Stanford University.

    Early Works
    On of Dupre's first Major Books to be published was he Disorder of Things: Metaphysical Foundations of the Disunity of Science. In this book Dupré introduces a strong and compelling argument against reductionism, setting the foundation for his later work. Dupré John.     From 1996 to 2000,, Dupré traveled back to England and taught as a part time professor at Birkbeck College, University of London.
  • University of Exter

    In the year 2000, he became the Director for the Centre for the philosophy of social sciences Professor of Philosophy of Science.
    From 2002-2013 he became the Director ESRC Centre for Genomics in Society,
  • Recognition

    In 2010 Dupré was recognized for his work regarding the criticism of Neo-Darwinism evolution. He was chosen as Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
