Once John joins the U.S. Air Force he begins to help his fellow Airmen make free phone calls by accessing a local telephone switchboard with any authorization.

When Draper is stationed in Charleston Air Force Station in Maine he creates a pirated Radio Station and calls it "WKOS" [W-"Chaos"] and after a little while does have to shut down the station due to a couple of things like objections of a licensed radio station etc.

Draper ended up leaving the Air Fore and moved to Silicon Valley and then he learns how to use this toy whistle that's modified from a Captain Crunch Cereal box and he uses that to Manipulate and hack phone lines through a certain process which became known as "Phone Phreaking".

Ron Rosenbaum a journalist with Esquire Magazine publishes a investigation article called "The secrets of the little blue box" which exposed phone phreaks phone hacking activities to the public.

Steve Wozniak, John Draper, and Steve Jobs meet and after meeting they discuss building blue boxes used for phone phreaking which then leads to Wozniak and Jobs setting up a small business selling blue boxes.

After leaving the Airforce Draper begins attending De Anza college and starts working for KUPP radio in Cupertino, CA as a engineer and disk jokey.

Once this article is released Draper then gets arrested and is charged with toll fraud and sentenced to 5 years of probation.

Draper continues breaking the law and is arrested for a second time on phone fraud.

Draper begins to work for apple and is given an assignment to develop a device that could connect the apple II computer to phone lines.

While serving his third prison sentence he was obviously bored in jail and wrote the EasyWriter the first word processor for the Apple II.

Draper is caught again and arrested and serves another prison sentence for phone fraud.

Draper eventually joins Autodesk Inc. as a video driver software designer but later was fired in 1988 after he was caught in a scheme to create fake Bay Area Rapid Transit tickets ("BART")
