  • University Elementary School

    John Dewey founded the first University Elementary School while working and teaching at the University of Chicago. “The school was designed to exhibit, test, and conduct research in educational methods centring on the child.” The main change at the school was how the students would be taught and learn their education. That was tested through the hands on learning versus the lecture, memorizes and test method.

  • Laboratory Schools

    In 1903, a set of schools were merged under John Dewey’s leadership. The schools would fill in from pre-nurse age all the way till 12th grade. The school’s adopted Dewey’s way of education of hands on learning. Many of the original schools still exist today and many more have been founded not only in the United States but all over the world. With all of them using the original method of hands on learning instead of lecture and test method.
  • Democracy and Education

    John Dewey wrote and published the book “Democracy and Education”. The book focused on how education is important for human growth and development. Also how schools need to focus on hands on learning (Constructivism) or experimental learning then the typical lectures and testing that have been heavily applied in education for years.
