I remember sitting down next to my mom at the dinner table as she made me read out loud and write in Vietnamese. I did not enjoy doing it because I just wanted to play, but looking back, I am happy she did it because I have improved greatly. It makes me feel closer to my family and proud of how far I have come.

I was in first grade when I got my first book called Shopkins: The Ultimate Collectors Guide. I wanted it because for my birthday I got a ton of Shopkins and needed the book to help guide me. It was really exciting to have one of my first "big" purchases other than just buying fun trinkets at the book fair, and it helped make collecting even more fun.

This still is a very good graphic novel and I occasionally do reread it because it feels so nostalgic to me. It combines the perfect about of humor, friendships, crushes, and drama. There is just something about it that makes it so much fun to read whether it is the fun personalities or unexpected twists.

I loved reading the entire series of Diary of a Wimpy Kid because it felt different from any other books I have read. It was whimsical and funny, and I really liked the comic-style it had that made me laugh but also showing how real a family, friendships, and growing up can be. At some points it even reminded me of my own life, making it even more fun to read.

When I read this story I was so intrigued by the idea of a girl named Lucy getting struck by lightning and ending up with genius math skills. I thought it was interesting how she struggled to fit in despite being so smart, making me realize that being different is something both powerful and hard.

This book had to be read in my freshman year by Mrs. Alajjan, and at first I thought it would be difficult and confusing, but I found it fascinating. I loved how Orwell used allegory to portray the farm animals and the farm handlers as different Russian figures. Those in power easily took advantage of others that were weak and defenseless, teaching important lessons about freedom and fairness. It is one of the more memorable books I read in the English curriculum.

My first ever grim fairy tale was Hansel and Gretel, and since then I have loved reading all kinds of them. I do believe they can be brutal, but I like the edginess of it and how it is not your typical magical and dreamy fairy tales. They show a different side to these stories, which makes them feel so much more interesting to read. I was hooked on them so much that I even bought "Grimm's Complete Fairy Tales" by The Brothers Grimm.

I felt this was one of the most beautifully written stories I have ever read. It was a combination of both sad but truly made me think and show how important my memories are. The last page of the book stuck with me because they were completely blank, giving the impression that the book itself was starting to be forgotten. While reading, I realized how easily we take things for granted, whether its people, moments or even the smallest things, and that we should hold close to them.
