After the death of the Japanese "nobles", round and square tombs were built. And there are a lot of them. They have the largest ancient tombs in the world. -

Yamato period
The Yamato kingdom established Japan, the first to achieve unity in Japan. Therefore, the Japanese nation is also called the Yamato nation. The Yamato nation was born. Including both the Kofun Period and the Asuka period. -

Asuka period
Japan transition from a slavery society to a feudal society. Prince Shōtoku pushing Buddhism to become a state religion in Japan and he also adopted the Chinese calendar. Based on Chinese models he developed a central administration and an imperial court attended by subordinate clan chieftains. -

Nara period
Japan's capital is moved from Fujiwara-kyō to Nara.
Most of the farmers followed Shintoism, but the Japanese upper classes patterned themselves after the Chinese, including adopting the Chinese writing system, Chinese fashion, and a Chinese version of Buddhism. Royal power getting weak cause by internal dissension. -

Heian period
The start of the Heian period is moving the capital from Nara to Kyoto.
Two types of Japanese script emerged Katakana and Hiragana.
The Japanese imperial no longer have real power, the Fujiwara family control the royal family.
The samurai class emerged eventually they will control Japan. -
Period: 1086 to 1192
Cloistered rule period
In the late Heian period, Taira is a leader of a group of samurai who has real power. In 1179, Kiyomori staged a coup d'état forcing the resignation of his rivals from all government posts and subsequently banishing them. After that Taira helps his grandson become a mikado who controlled Japan. In 1185 Yoritomo help Go-Shirakawa kill Taira and he becomes the first shōgun of the Kamakura shogunate of Japan. -

Kamakura period
Japan has entered to Kamakura period people ruled by Samurai. The preservation of the emperor system of Japan was determined by Yoritomo. He established a new government at his family home in Kamakura. He called his government a Bakufu.
In 1268 king of Kublai demanded that the Japanese pay tribute to the new Yuan dynasty. Bakufu rejected the Mongol demands. Yuan dynasty dispatch troops twice but all failed. But because of the war civil disorder started. -

Northern and Southern Courts period
Ashikaga Takauji is the master of North Court. The Takauji fight on behalf of Samurai.
Emperor Go-Daigo is the master of South Court. The Go-Daigo fight on behalf of Kuge.
North court have more Samurai and more support, In 1392 south court surrender to the north court. The final winner is the Ashikaga shogunate, they get real power. -

Muromachi period
Sustained poverty results in unrest, In 1428 there are hundreds of farmers uprising against the landlord and the ruler. In 1448 Ashikaga shogunate pardoned every person by debt cancellation.
In 1467 the civil war Ōnin War started.

Period: 1477 to 1575
Sengoku period
The Sengoku period was initiated by the Ōnin War in 1467. Many samurai warlords fought for control over Japan. The contrasting personalities of the three leaders who contributed the most to Japan's final unification Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu. In 1575 Nobunaga use firearms to defeat Takeda's cavalry. This win is a turning point in Japanese warfare and it ended the Sengoku period. -

Azuchi–Momoyama period
Because Nobunaga dead in 1582, Hideyoshi inherit Nobunaga's forces.
In 1590 The Toyotomi Hideyoshi ended the troubled times by defeated the Later Hōjō clan. The military reunification of Japan was complete
In 1592 Hideyoshi sent an army of 200,000 attacks to Korea but he failed. In 1598 after twice failed Hideyoshi dead.
Tokugawa has seized his opportunity to establish the Edo Bakufu. -
Jun 21, 1582
Honnō-ji Incident
In 1582 Oda Nobunaga was at the height of his power as the most powerful daimyō in Japan. There are only three rival daimyō left after that he can unite the country. On June 21st night Nobunaga was betrayed by his most loyal men Akechi Mitsuhide. In the end, Nobunaga and his son commit suicide.
The reason why Mitsuhide assassinating Nobunaga nobody knows.
This night may be changed Japanese history. -

Edo period
In 1603 Tokugawa Ieyasu did become the Seii Taishogun, the ruler of Japan with the emperor as a figurehead.
Edo period is last feudal era in Japan history.
Christian have been banned in Japan.
In the later Edo period, Anti-Bakufu Sentiment started. Edo period is over. -
Perry Expedition
In the early Edo period, Japan implements the self-seclusion policy.
The U.S. army invasion of Japan in the 1854 march, who forced Japan to sign the unequal treaties which are Kanagawa Treaty.
It ends Japan's 220-year-old policy of national seclusion. -
Meiji Restoration
In 1868 Emperor Meiji proceed Meiji restoration. During the Restoration, Japan rapidly industrialized and adopted Western ideas and production methods. After 20 years Japan becomes a capitalist country. Compare to China, Japan moves forward boldly and walks out a road that belongs to itself uniquely. -

In the Meiji period, Japan ended the feudal system and stepped into modern society. This change was very successful. The Mikado first time gets real power. The Mikado started the industrial revolution. The Japanese economy grew very fast. Japan defeated China and Russia, Who become a world power. -

In 1914 Japan attend the first world war as an Entente country. They send troops to China QINGDAO to fight the German army, after that, they did not leave instead occupy it. However, China also is an Entente country. Until 1922, Japan was under pressure to focus on return QINGDAO.

In 1925, Emperor Hirohito of Japan has been enthroned in Tokyo. He starts an invasion into China and attends world war two as Axis powers.
In 1945, two atomic bombs dropped in Japan, the Japanese Emperor Hirohito sign his name on the capitulation ushered in the ending of the war.
In 1955, the Jinmu boom makes Japan's economic recovery.
In 1989 Emperor Hirohito passes away, Shōwa period has ended peacefully. -

In 1991, Suddenly the economic bubble burst. A mass of banks goes bankrupt.
In 1995, the Tokyo subway sarin attack happened. This attack remains the deadliest terrorist incident in Japan as defined by modern standards.
In the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami. It was the most powerful earthquake ever recorded in Japan. The tsunami caused Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster.
