    Even though it is thought that Christopher Columbus discovered America in 1492 and it is celebrated the first person was a Viking, Leif Eriksson. Columbus with his 3 ships, Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria actually landed in the Carribean.

    The Pilgrim Landing
    The Mayflower, carrying the Pilgrims from England arrived in Plymouth Harbor in 1620. The Pilgrims were people from England who left because they believed that the Church of England had lost its way and wanted to practice their religion freely in a new country.

    The American War of Independence was a global war that began as a conflict between Great Britain and her Thirteen Colonies which declared independence as the United States of America. The colonies declared "No taxation without representation" and refused to pay extra taxes on tea and stamp. The colonies were led by George Washington who became the first President of the United States of America.

    The Civil War was between the North and South of the United States mostly about slavery and the rights of the states. 11 States left the Union in order to continue having slaves. The Northern States were called the Unions and the Southern was called the Confederates. Abraham Lincoln was President at the time.

    This was an important event because it was the biggest defeat of the US army when they were trying to force the Native Americans to move from their lands into reservations. The Native Americans who defeated General Custer were the Sioux and the Cheyenne. The leader of the Native Americans was Chief Sitting Bull.

    The United States of America joined World War 2 when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbour, which then infuriated them and lead them to declare war on Japan which lead Germany to declare war on the US. The original cause of World War 2 was when England and France declared war on Germany after they invaded Poland in 1939.

    John F Kennedy was the 35th President of the United States of America. He was assassinated on November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas. This was a big event because only very rarely do presidents get assassinated and there were high hopes for the future of the US being led by a strong leader. He served from 1961 to 1963.

    The United States of America entered the Vietnam War in 1965. They entered the war because they wanted to stop places around the world falling under Communist Influence. The American Government looked at Vietnam as it were another Korea. The USA stayed in the Vietnam war for about 20 years

    The Apollo 11 was the first spacecraft that had landed humans on the moon and arrived back safely. Aboard Apollo 11 was 3 astronauts, Neil Armstrong, Edwin Aldrin and Michael Collins. When they were on the moon, Neil Armstrong said one of the most famous quotes, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind".

    9/11
    This was a series of 4 horrific attacks on the United States by Al Qaeda led by Osama Bin Laden in 2001 using aeroplanes as weapons. 2 of the attacks were on the World Trade Center towers in New York City. One was on the Pentagon and one was stopped by crashing in a field. Approximately 3,000 people died making it the worst terrorist attack recorded in the US.
