Promoting Moral Improcment
Some reforms felt that morality, not the workplace, held the key to improving the lives of poor people. These reformers wanted immigrants and poor city dwellers to uplift themselves by improving their personal behavior. Prohibition, the banning of alcoholic beverages, was one such program. -
George Eastman
He had to carry over 100 pounds for one load of camera equipment. To lighten the load, he changed the plates with film so it wasnt as heavy. By doing this, he also didnt have to develope the picture right away. -
Joseph Pulitzer
A Hungarian immigrant who bought the New York World in 1883. He pioneered popular innovations such as a large Sunday edition. He also wrote the comics sports coverage and womens news. -
Orville and Wilbur Wright
They were great inventors, The Wright brothers invented the first printing press in 1889. Then they made a weekly paper, which turned into a daily paper. -
Progressive Movement
The progressive movment aimed to restore econimic oppertunities and correct injustces in American life. Even though reformers never completely agreed on the problems or the solutions, each of their progressive efforts shared at least one goal. The goals that they shared are protecting social welfare, promoting moral improvent, creating economic reforms and fostering efficiency. -
William Randolph Hearst
A wealthy man who owned the New York Morning Journal in 1895. He wanted to buy all the newspapers from all the other people. He wanted to replace them with fake stories and even a fake trip to Mars. -
Rural Free Delivery
In 1896 the post office introduced a RFD system that brought packages directly to every home. This boosted the United States mail-order big time. By 1910, about 10million Americans shopped by mail. -
Teddy Roosevelt
Roosevelt was the 26th president of the United States. He was born in New York on October 27, 1858. Died on January 6, 1919. -
Wright Brothers
The Wright Brothers made their greatest invention ever. They built their own airplane. The airplane they built could fly for about 30minutes at a time.
