    The first people to arrive to Scotland are the Celts. They arrive at 2500 years ago.
    A few words that the Celts invent are clen, glen, pet, slogan... Long ago, Celtic tribes, called Britons, lived on this island. Unfortunately, the Celts lived in many tribes. This made them somewhat defenseless to larger armies. This made their island vulnerable to attack
  • The romans

    The romans

    In 55BC there was an invasion by the Romans who spoke Latin. They gave Latin names to places and some of these names are still used today Example:
    Londinium, Battle, banner, road, street, mile, ...
  • The anglo- saxons

    The anglo- saxons

    The first people who spoke English
    arrived in England in about the year 450.
    These people were the Anglo-Saxons
    and their language was Old English. A few words that the angols Saxons contributed to the English are: Butter, chalk, chest, cup, fan, fork, mile, cathedral, mint, monk, pepper, school, sock, strap, wine.

    From about 800, the Vikings started to invade Britain.
    The Vikings came from countries like Denmark and
    Norway and spoke a language that developed
